[edit] List of Academy Award records
[edit] Shortest acceptance speech
When Joe Pesci won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, his entire speech was "This is an honor and a privilege, thank you." It is the third shortest Oscar-acceptance speech, after William Holden's, who simply said "Thank you" upon winning for Stalag 17, and Alfred Hitchcock's, who merely said "Thanks," when he received an Honorary Oscar. Later, Pesci admitted that he didn't say more, because "I really didn't think I was going to win." [9]
[edit] Shortest performance
- The shortest Oscar-winning performances belong to Anthony Quinn [wiki], who won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Paul Gauguin in Lust for Life (1956), and Judi Dench, who won Best Supporting Actress for playing Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love (1999). They were actually on screen for only 8 minutes each. [1]
- In 1971, 'John Mills' won best supporting actor for playing a mute in this film. He bowed and said nothing in the shortest acceptance speech on record. (Ryan's Daughter)
- Johnny Belinda - Jane Wyman - Short speech
