[edit] Discrepency in number of stores

There are 28 locations listed, but the body explains that it was a 27-store chain? One source linked in the description identifies 26 in Texas and one store in Phoenix. [1] Which is correct? Clipper471 14:29, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Update... 27 stores in Texas (after Allied Store Corporation changed the names of its Tiche-Goettinger stores in Dallas to Joske's) and one in Phoenix = 28
  • Update 2... at the time of the buyout by Dillard's, there were indeed 27 stores. Perhaps the Las Palmas store in San Antonio closed prior to the Dillard's takeover. Clipper471 00:03, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discrepency -- Expansion into Houston

The body explains expansion into Houston occurred in 1965, but the list of stores shows that the Gulfgate Mall location opened in 1956 and the Post Oak store opened in 1963. Clipper471 14:35, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Gulfgate location was confirmed to have opened in 1956.

[edit] Las Palmas Shopping Center location

Any info for a closing date? Clipper471 04:53, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flagship location

Wanting to add Camellia Room details, but have none. Any info? Clipper471 04:53, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

I added a blurb identifying the dining room. According to the KLRN program "Downtown San Antonio," the dining room was the place to spot celebrities when they visited San Antonio. Clipper471 23:43, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

According to "Downtown San Antonio," there was another room as well. But I couldn't understand the narrator if he said the "Gruene Room," the "Green Room," or the "greeting room." Clipper471 23:45, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Phoenix store

I received a response from Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix that they never had a Titche-Goettinger, just a Joske’s. They said that Joske's was there from the beginning (opened in 1973 according to the Metrocenter Mall article) until Dillard’s or Diamonds opened their second store. [edit] Community service

Another possible area of interest to add is the "Joske Jabber Wocky" and "Teena Texas." the Joske Jabber Wocky was an employee newsletter, I think. Teena Texas was a pageant the flagship store sponsored where San Antonio-area teens participated. (Saw these two mentioned in the program "Downtown San Antonio" as well.) [edit] Baybrook Mall

Foley's took over one of the two Dillard's locations at Baybrook in 2004. Was it the former Joske's location? Clipper471 00:16, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

The Foley's (2004) at Baybrook Mall was built on the site of the old Joske's/Dillard's location. The building that Dillard's currently occupies was originally a Macy's store that they purchased in 1997. For a time Dillard's operated two outlets in the mall.

This is a timeline created from several 'Houston Chronicle' (chron.com) article archives noting the opening dates for the anchor stores in the mall:

Original Anchor Stores

  • Joske's (1978), Dillard's (1987), demolished and site occupied by Foley's (2004)
  • Montgomery Ward (1978), Foley's (2001), demolished and site occupied by JC Penny (2005)
  • Sears (1978)

Added Anchors:

  • Mervyn's (1984), vacant (2005)
  • Macy's (1985), Dillard's (1997)

[edit] Greenspoint and Sunrise

Just two stores remain that don't have opening years. Greenspoint Mall in Houston opened in 1976. Not sure if Joske's opened at the same time the mall opened. Sunrise Mall in Corpus Christi is the other. Clipper471 04:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
