Talk:Joseph de Maistre/Comments

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A weakness of that idea is that de Maistre belongs to litterature in French language, but strictly speaking, not to modern France (similarly, putting a Swiss writer in a France portal would not be suitable). The state to which De Maistre belonged did not resemble France in the least.

Yet we should probably put de Maistre in the France portal as a matter of expediency (not scientific accuracy), since the Kingdom of Sardinia no longer exists and this character would not appear in a proper portal. Similarly, it should be admissible that he also appears in the Italy portal, for the same reason (since the disappeared state spanned both sides of the Alps). But since this is an anachronism, every precaution should be taken in order not to mislead the reader to believing that this author was politically French nor Italian or that he may have thought himself as a citizen/subject of one of those two modern countries.
