[edit] background
Since 1827 under the Joseph Brazier name the company has been making parts and components for the Gun Trade. Its gun locks, stamped with the Brazier Ashes name, are found in most quality firearms ever since. Joseph Whitworth, who also used Joseph Brazier locks on its firearms, invented fluid steel barrels in about 1880 rendering prior gun barrels obsolete. In 2004 Joseph Brazier invented single solid one piece barrels of vacuum arc remelt steel making other forms of gun barrel manufacturing since 1880 now obsolete. The gun locks it makes today have normal tolerances of .050 microns or less. However, for the HMS Victory in 2004, it made the cannon locks to look as if they were made in 1770 but used CNC and EDM technologies to produce the locks. Further, Brazier has applied new technology to wood. Their impregnation method makes it possible to now make intricate gun stocks and other wood products by CNC machine which otherwise might be destroyed because of its exotic figure and burl. The treatment can also be used for restoration of wood, ships in water and other applications.
