Talk:José Corazón de Jesús
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is another Filipino poet named Jose Corazon de Jesus. The poems of the poet Jose Corazon de Jesus---also known as Huseng Batute---is taught in Philippine schools, while not many people may now remember Jose Corazon de Jesus the actor or any of his movies.
Since the poet is someone who figures in Philippine literature and will figure in most academic researches, especially for students doing their literature research and for people who are studying about Philippine literature, I believe that the poet's biography should come in first when people do a search on "Jose Corazon de Jesus". I cannot think of any other compelling reasons why this should not be the case.
I think that what should be done at this junction is to create a page for Jose Corazon de Jesus the poet, create a redirector for his nickname (Huseng Batute), and create a disambiguation page for these two persons. However, I'll need to do my research on the poet first (I have an anthology of his poems, with a short biography as well). If someone does this before me, I'll appreciate that, and I'll just add in my contributions to that article. In the meantime I'm putting this current article (about the actor) on my watch list. --Tito Pao 06:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mistaken identifty?
The name of the silent movie actor is Jose Corazon de Jesus JR. (Please refer to <http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1815536/>). I believe he is the son of Huseng Batute. I know that Huseng Batute had a son by the name of Jose Jr., but I'm not sure if he's the same person as the actor. I agree that Huseng Batute is more widely known. Being a journalist, I asked an entertainment section editor if he knew of the actor Jose Corazon de Jesus and the editor said he knew only of Jose Corazon de Jesus the poet. I mean no offense, but Jose Corazon de Jesus JR. does not, in my estimation, pass Wiki's "college professor test."
I agree that this case of mistaken identity is unfair to Huseng Batute, who is a giant in Philippine literature. I have prepared a stub on Huseng Batute (which I hope other Wikipedians will expand), but I don't know how to deal with it. Wouldn't it be easier to post my stub on the current (but dubious) Jose Corazon de Jesus page and just create a new page for Jose Corazon de Jesus JR.? --Pula Bughaw 15:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
