Joseph Ryelandt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Joseph Ryelandt (April 7, 1870 Bruges – June 29, 1965 also in Bruges)[1] was a Belgian classical composer.
Ryelandt intended to study law, but changed his mind[1] and in 1891 became a private composition pupil of Edgar Tinel.
From 1924 through 1945, except for a gap of two years caused by World War II, Ryelandt directed the Municipal Conservatory of Bruges.
His compositions include five symphonies (1897-1933)[1], at least two of them recorded,[2][3] as well as four string quartets (1897-1943), two piano quintets, seven violin sonatas (1896-1935), eleven piano sonatas (1892-1937), and other works.
A mass from 1934 has also been recorded (on BIS records), as has a setting of the Agnus Dei.
