Joseph Muscat (b. 22 January 1974 in Pietà and lives in Burmarrad) is Maltese politician, leader of the Malta Labour Party and a Member of the European Parliament. Together with his party, he is a member of the Party of European Socialists, and is Vice President of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.

Muscat is the son of Saviour Muscat and Grace. Muscat is married to Michelle née Tanti, and they have twins: Etoile Ella and Soleil Sophie.

He was elected to the European Parliament in 2004 with 36,958 votes, being the most voted candidate from Malta Labour side and the first candidate representing the Malta Labour Party to be ever elected as MEP. He is also a substitute for the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, vice-chair of the delegation for relations with Belarus, and a substitute for the delegation for relations with the countries of south-east Europe. In 2006 he won the Outstanding Young Person of the Year Award.

In March 2008 he announced he would be running for the post of Leader of the Malta Labour Party to replace Alfred Sant who resigned after a third consecutive defeat for the Party in the General Elections held on the 8th of March. The election for Party Leader was held on June 5 and 6, 2008. Joseph Muscat was confirmed the new party leader on June 6, 2008, garnering almost half the total votes on the first voting round, and almost two-thirds on the second round.
