Joseph Maher (December 29, 1933 – July 17, 1998) was an Irish character actor who appeared in 43 films and was nominated for three Tony Awards and a Drama Desk Award for his supporting roles on the stage.
Maher was born in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, the son of Delia A. (née O'Malley) and Joseph Maher, a schoolteacher.[1] One of ten children, he was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers.
Maher's Broadway theatre credits include The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, King Henry V, The Royal Family, Night and Day, and Loot.
Maher's film credits included For Pete's Sake, Heaven Can Wait, Just Tell Me What You Want, I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can, My Stepmother is an Alien, Sister Act, I.Q., and The Out-of-Towners
Maher died of a brain tumor at his home in Los Angeles, California. He was 64 years old.
