Joseph Lapchick (born April 12, 1900), was a college basketball coach at St.John's. From 1934 to 1946, he took that position, and achieved great success. His teams never lost more than seven games in a season, and won back-to-back NIT championships in 1943 and 1944. He later became the head coach of the New York Knicks. He returned to St.John's where he won the NIT again in 1956. He is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame
