Joseph Edward Smadel

Joseph Edward Smadel (1907 - 1963) was a U.S. physician and virologist. Smadel was awarded his MD from Washington University in St. Louis. He studied chloramphenicol as treatment for rickettsial diseases. He was the first recipient of the Albert Lasker Award for Clinical Medical Research in 1962.
