Jose Mestre (born October 8, 1957 in Lisbon, Portugal[1]) is a man known for having a 15-inch-long, 12-pound tumor on his face.[2]
The tumor started forming on his lips when he was 14. Mestre, a devout Jehovah's Witness, has refused surgical treatment because it would violate personal convictions. When he was a child, his mother told him never to accept a blood transfusion, and he follows her advice out of respect and faith.
This has frustrated his sister and caretaker, Guida Mestre, who thinks he should have the operation since it is easy and his refusal is based on superstition.[3]
A documentary titled "The Man with No Face" aired on December 6, 2007, on the Discovery Channel at 9pm.[4]
