José María Freire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jose Maria Freire was the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of Argentina under President Juan Perón. Though the Ministry had an extremely important role in Perón's presidency, Freire had little to no part in it. Juan's First Lady and the Spiritual Leader of the Nation of Argentina, the de facto Co-President of Argentina, Eva Perón, ran the entire ministry.

Eva was immediately installed at the Ministry. Freire's desk was moved to make room for Evita, and he ceded all power to her. Instead of running the show, Freire would run Evita's errands and serve as her assistant. She continued to run the Ministry until her death in 1952, leaving the Minister with nothing more than a ceremonial title. [1]

[edit] Profession

Freire's profession was that of a glassblower before his puppet role in the government.
