José Carlos da Silva José

José Carlos da Silva José (born Vila Franca de Xira, 22 September 1941), known as José Carlos, was a Portuguese footballer, who played mostly as central defender.
He played for CUF, from Barreiro, and moved, in 1962/63, to Sporting Lisbon, were he reached stardom. He won several titles of National Champion and the Cup of Portugal. He was also a Cup of the Cups winner, in 1964.
He had 36 caps for Portugal National Team, 3 for CUF and 33 for Sporting Lisbon, from the 6-0 win over Luxembourg, in 19 March 1961, in the World Cup qualifyings, to the 5-0 win over Denmark, in 12 May 1971, for the European Championship qualifyings.
He was a member of the squad that reached the 3 rd place in the World Cup 1966 finals, in England, playing in the semi-finals loss to the home nation (1-2), and in the match for the 3 rd place win over the U.S.S.R. (2-1).
