Image:Ul jp forney0908+Z.jpg Jordan Forney is one of the most prestige atheltes in the world. Forney has often been compared to many athletes, but most notably was his comparison to the late Branch McKracken. Forney has strived to put his game to the next level and rise above the standards set by college and nba scouts and coaches. Forneys athletic and academic achievements have earned him a full ride scholarship to Yale where he will attend with the hopes of entering the draft following his freshman year.
Forney's popularity has even spread into the music and Hip Hop industries. Under ground hip hop artist Quincy "Q-Pac" Harrison released "Sports Man", a fresh single from his hit album "Get Money" sent a shockwave through the sport and music industries.
As a young and eager freshman Forney was introduced to the cruelties of high school by older and more temidating upper classman. Forneys struggle towards achieving perfect teeth led him to be involved in a baseball brawl early in his career. Dustin Dilliard, a mediocre athlete whom played baseball beside Forney, one day commented on Jordans hideous braces and teeth, Forney later replied, atleast im not dating an ugly freshman, referring to his girlfriend who lacked any facial beauty at all, and the fight was set. Dilliard was instantly furious and responded not with words, but with blunt brutality. Dilliard punched Forney in the face and his nose began to bleed, from that day on everyone knew Forney was a pussy, a big one at that.
Athletic Achievements
Forney has been able to wrack up a number of outstanding athletic achievements throughout his career. Forney has earned Herald Times-All area for basketball and was invited to attend the Indiana All-Star try out. Forney was annouced to the All-Area baseball team and was awarded academic All-State. In football Forney won All Conference All area and Acedemic All-State as well. BLOOMINGTON SOUTH BASKETBALL STATS 06'07 SEASON G 3PFG Pct. AFG Pct. FT Pct. There’s no list of the best athletes Bloomington has produced over the years, but Forney would obviously be on it. In football, basketball and baseball the 6-foot-4, 200-pound South senior has been a standout on successful teams.
"Jordan is a big-time player," South football coach Drew Wood said. "He’s definitely Division I, and I think he can play on either side of the ball."
The best is yet to come, too, from people interested in his services beyond his final year at South.
"He’s so big and athletic," Wood said. "I think the recruiting will pick up now. He was at the camps as a receiver, so nobody really knows about him as a safety.
"Jordan is a great blocker, and all his catches usually have an extra 5 or 10 yards after the catch. He’s a guy we can count on offensively and defensively. He’s a hitter, too. He can play outside linebacker, receiver, safety or tight end in college."
Forney is making no commitments for next year, but he has a lot of leverage on his options. Not only is he capable athletically, but he has a 4.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Whatever happens, the choice will be Forney’s.
"I definitely want the opportunity to play at the next level, that’s for sure," said Forney, one of four team captains. "It’s hard to choose a sport. I’ve been told my best chance is football or baseball, but given my family tradition it’s hard to give up basketball. It’s hard to pick a favorite sport — I like whatever is in season."
The next level might not even be college if he chooses baseball. Forney hit .400 with six home runs last spring, and he is an excellent defensive first baseman.
"I haven’t even thought about being drafted. We’ll just see what happens," he said.
Forney, sounds more inclined toward heading off to college than the dusty backroads of baseball, and academics may be a factor. He’s thinking of studying finance or economics or pre-law.
"I’ve really been humbled by all the attention I’ve got," he said. "I’m just looking for a school that had a good balance between athletics and academics."
But first things first, and there’s an entire senior season to be played, resuming Friday when the Panthers (3-0) travel to North (2-1).
The Panthers are young with inexperienced quarterbacks, and Forney didn’t play a major role in South’s first two games. Last week, however, he caught a touchdown pass, ran two yards on a reverse for a TD and intercepted a pass in the 21-13 win over Franklin Central.
"Jordan is so competitive and so smart," Wood said. "I think it’s been frustrating we haven’t gotten him into the offense (a lot) yet."
Some frustration, yes, but Forney said he’s happy as long as the Panthers are winning and he’s doing what’s best for the team. Sophomore Marcus Etnier is getting the ball into Forney’s hands more now.
"I’ve had to have some patience, but just because you’re not getting the ball doesn’t mean you can’t help the team out in other spots," Forney said. "I don’t really look at the statistics. It’s about helping the team out and producing a win." -Rex Kirts
