[edit] Writing Style

This article gives the distinct impression of being written by someone with a considerably less than perfect perception of the English language (specifically, as though spontaneously translated from Spanish). It should be rewritten. User:John1987, 27th of November, 2006.

Why does not this article say which year he was born?

[edit] Misc.

Does anyone know of a link to an audio file of Jorge Cano's singing?

No, but I wish I knew where to find one. It is unearthly to hear a sopranist sing though, or any male in the whistle register. This audio file will give you an idea maybe. http://www.archive.org/details/AlessandroMoreschi Took me forever to find, Moreschi, the only castrati to record a song, sings Ave Maria. It is haunting, and one of the sadder things I've heard. He is not the greatest castrato according to records, but since it is the only remnant we have, we have to make do. I would have liked to hear the great Farinelli sing. I could never think to rob a young man of his testacles.

This link to a sound clip of Radu Marian may be a better example. Unlike Moreschi's voice, which is either old and out of prime, or simply not of high quality and/or technique, Marian's voice is quite light and nimble, and he sings this aria brilliantly. In addition, Marian, like Cano, is fairly young and still very much actively performing. http://www.abeillemusique.com/son/classique/a335.ram

Interesting! I expected some kind of gender-neutral voice: that means one that you can’t hear witch gender the person has. Instead Jorge appears to change between a high pitched female voice and one that sounds like a pre-pubertal child. (I understand that opera roles once written for castrati are now acted by women.) I see why he is famous for his special voice!

But what is the hormonal disorder he has called? Does it have any medical consequences other than preventing his voice from ever breaking? Are he and Radu Marian sterile, do they have any other characteristics of pre-pubertal boys? Furthermore, how many cases are known to science? I have thought about this because I suspect that a previous class-mate had the same condition. Despite being at least 20 he has a child-like voice and very little facial hair. (One of my fiends still has contact with him.)
