Established in 1960, Jorhat Engineering College is one of the premier Technical Colleges recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education.

[edit] Hostel accommodation
There are eight boys' hostels and one girls' hostel providing accommodation for the students. The hostels are numbered from 1 to 9, number 9 being the girls' hostel. Every hostel is equipped with a mess for dining, common room for the borders and recreational activities. One lecturer/professor of the college is given responsibility as superientendant of every hostel.
