[edit] Career
Martínez began his career with Primera División Uruguaya team Montevideo Wanderers F.C., where he spent six years before moving to Club Nacional de Football in 2006. He then moved to Italy as he was signed by Sicilian Serie A team Catania at the beginning of the 2007–08 season. His debut performance, in a 0–0 draw against Genoa, saw him come on as a substitute in the 56th minute. He continued to start two games, though he was substituted in both of them.
Martínez marked his first start, against Empoli on September 26, by scoring the winning goal in the 48th minute at his home stadium, the Stadio Angelo Massimino, with an assist from team-mate Giacomo Tedesco.
Martínez has made one appearance for Uruguay as a substitute in an international friendly against England on March 1, 2007. He is 5'10" tall and weighs 13 stone.
