Jorge Alfaro

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jorge Alfaro was one of the soloists of the dance group Guaracheros de Regla. Alfaro was also a well-known choreographer of Quinceañeras in Havana. Considered to be among the top dancers of the 1960s, his reputation as a dancer was on a par with that of Vacallao from Orquesta Aragón and Castellanos, Beny Morés famous son.

He started his dancing career in San Miguel and Jacomino, then went to Regla where he joined the Guaracheros de Regla. According to Humberto Medina, guarachero mayor and founder of the group, Jorge Alfaro (Jorgito) reached his pick in Havana Carnivals between 1964 and 1968. As a soloist, he danced in front of the group exhibiting the most ellegant and complicated footwork to the delight of expectators. As Cubans are considered naturally proficient dancers, soloists must have a high degree of mastery in order to draw the ovations from the public.
