[edit] Re: Bowlby Page and Sarner ban
Dear Nicholas. I see that Larry Sarner is banned from editing the Bowlby article. Is he also prohibited from the talk page? His comments on the talk page suggest that he is only voluntarily not making changes in the Bowlby article as part of a "gentleman's agreement." Is that correct? You can comment here or on my talk page. JonesRD 17:17, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Dear JonesRD: Hello there. I have not, to date, banned Sarner (talk ยท contribs) from the Bowlby page; it was Stephen Barrett that he is banned from editing, and that article alone - if necessary, however, I can extend the ban should his disruption also be extending to this article. Regarding following the ban being "voluntary", that is partly correct in that there is nothing in place to directly stop him from making changes to the article he is banned on, but it was more of offering a more reasonable alternative to actually blocking him from editing Wikipedia - which I would do if he chose to circumvent the ban, because there would be no other means left at my disposal to stop the disruption. Any article-related ban, as per general precedent by the Arbitration Committee, does not automatically extend to the talk page in that it is reasonable to permit banned users to discuss the content of the article; that said, if users do abuse their right to propose changes on the talk page, they will be stripped of that as well (let me know if this is the case). Should, of course, the user remain obstinate and continue the disruption, the only remaining action is either to block the user from editing Wikipedia entirely, either for incrementally longer periods or for a simple indefinite block should the user be truly recalcitrant - or, alternatively, bring it to the attention of the Arbitration Committee, although personally I would favour merely setting a block in such a clear case of fixated editing. [edit] Mediation
A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Attachment Therapy, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible.
