[edit] License tagging for Image:KentS 2833.png

Thanks for uploading Image:KentS 2833.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article on Rootstown

Hey, I noticed that you want to split the Rootstown article. Before that gets done, it needs cleaned up real bad. It was vandalized by a few people. Check its discussion page for more. --Rovership27 21:09, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help, Jon!

Someone has nominated about 20 library articles that I've added for the Libraries in Ohio project to be deleted! I am sick about this. I have spent hours working on these becuase it appears on our project list! Please jump into the discussion here and let them know that this is a Wiki-Ohio project and they should not delete it!!!! delete discussion Thanks!!!!CRKingston 09:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Your response is perfect. Most of the library articles are not fleshed out, they are stubs. I tried to build library articles good bones. They have references and external links. They are not orphans, they have incoming links. They are in the appropriate categories. These articles should never appear on any of the maintenance lists. These are things that new contributors might not figure out they need to do, people who can add meat to the bones but don't understand incoming links or categories, etc. Many of the libraries have lots of interesting stories, like they are located in historic buildings, or they also house a regional museum,, or they offer a wide range of services. Some people have jumped in and fleshed out the stubs. But the bottom line to me is that the Ohio project identified the Libraries in Ohio as a project and should control its destiny. Thanks! [edit] Active user verification

Hello, JonRidinger. Due to the high number of inactive users at WP:USRD, we are asking that you verify that you are still an active contributor of the project. To do so, please add an asterisk (*) after your name on Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Newsletter/List. Users without one by the next issue in 2 weeks will be removed off the list and off the respective road projects as well. If you have any questions, please contact me on my talk page. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:ATMlogo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:ATMlogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 05:03, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portage County template

Thanks for correcting the Portage County template. I converted nearly all of the Ohio county templates from another format to this one on the same day, and I copy/pasted a bunch; I must have copy/pasted this from Erie County by accident. Nyttend 13:41, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A Portage County Tallmadge Image

I recently saw your images with municipalities highlighted within a county, and I was interested in creating one for Tallmadge's minuscule portion of Portage County for use in the article. I looked at the image page, but I didn't find where you got the Portage County map with the communities outlined. Was it self-made, or was there a file somewhere on the Internet that I could use to create this image? I tried to edit one of your other community images in Paint, but was unsuccessful. Would you be willing to send me a copy of the base image so I can edit it to reflect Tallmadge?

If you want to create the image yourself, that'd be cool too. If not, I'd be more than happy to create the image myself. Thanks for your time, and keep up the good work! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 02:45, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks a bunch, and don't forget to add the image to your user page as one that you created! Thanks again, and I hope you continue to contribute to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 03:35, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Dix Stadium 1970.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Dix Stadium 1970.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. fuzzy510 02:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] An important letter

Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

Regards,

Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 17:10, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scarlet OSU

That's odd, because if you look at every logo, the webpage, the icon, and everything else Ohio State, it doesn't use a color anything like the scarlet on Wikipedia. Odd. That's a pretty big mess-up somewhere...  hmwith  talk 01:10, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Haha, yeah, if you go to OSU's webpage, it has that darker scarlet as well. Someone messed up big time somewhere... haha.  hmwith  talk 15:45, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ATMlogo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ATMlogo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Alpta 17:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Regionalksu.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Regionalksu.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:10, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:New Roosevelt logo.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:New Roosevelt logo.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. [edit] John Johnson Farm

Hey there! I wanted to let you know that I created an article for the John Johnson Farm in Hiram, Ohio. Since you're from the area, and your user page states that you're a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I figured you might be able to contribute to the article. -- JeffBillman (talk) 05:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Ohio Newsletter

Issue II - May 2008
From the editor:

Here's Issue II of the project newsletter. We're trying to decide if this is sinking or floating. If you would like to contribute to next month's newsletter please jump right in at the News Desk! Have a great May.

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

[edit] WikiProject BYU Invite

Hello, I noticed you've made edits to Brigham Young University articles and thought you might want to become a member of the BYU WikiProject. We've recently revamped the project page and started a drive to improve BYU-related articles. We have a lot of articles under our project and would like assistance getting them to featured article status. Hope you'll join us. Go Cougars!

BYU-Idaho is currently under our WikiProject, so thought you might be interested. Best regards --Eustress (talk) 16:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] BYU-Idaho Intro

The word Mormon is better than "members of the LDS church." "Mormon" is concise and people understand it better. Also, the fact that 99% of the students at BYU-I are Mormon is perhaps the defining characteristic of the school. So it should be near the very beginning of the entry. It's one of the first things a BYU-I outsider needs to learn.JackWilliams (talk) 05:59, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Brigham Young University Collaboration for June 2008

The current WPBYU collaboration for the period ending June 30, 2008 is:

BYU Jerusalem Center

Our July 2008 project is TBD. If you would like to nominate an article for a future project or see what articles we've already collaborated on, please visit the Collaboration talk page.

Welcome to the WikiProject, Jon. I look forward to working with you on this month's collaboration article and all others associated with the project. You've probably noticed that BYU-Idaho is currently under the BYU WikiProject, which I think is best until BYU-Idaho articles are more developed and better categorized. Perhaps you can specialize in that arena, but know that all of us are willing to help out with any BYU school's articles. I'd especially like to see BYU-Idaho get to GA status. Best regards --Eustress (talk) 21:22, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] OHSAA article cleanup

Hey there. I noticed you mentioned being willing to head an effort to make the articles listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pioneer Conference be laid out in similar ways. I was wondering if you thought it would be a good idea to post the contents of User talk:Stepshep/Sandbox at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pioneer Conference? Let me know what you think. §hep¡Talk to me! 00:53, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey. Frank12 has agreed to help us as well. Since you two are the big article editors in this area. Would you mind working with User:Frank12 at Wikipedia talk:OH/HS Football Conferences to get a standard set down? Thank you so much! §hep¡Talk to me! 22:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kent State Stark

Please do not guess/make assumpitons and the resulting changes to the Kent State Stark wiki without checking with one of the following: Tina Biasella (tbiasella@stark.kent.edu), Director, External Affairs Rachel Figueroa (rfigueroa@stark.kent.edu), Director of Marketing Dr. Betsy Boze (bboze@kent.edu) Dean —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.34.236.153 (talk) 04:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

If you are so certain about your edits, why don't you sign up for an account rather than do it anonymously? Further, those people you named DO NOT have final say over what is in the Wiki about KSU-Stark. I am not guessing either...all edits have been made with sources; to remove point of view (POV) issues; or to organize the paragraphs so they flow better. Much of the article seems to be a direct copy of KSU-Stark's own website, which is a violation of copyright and Wikipedia policy anyway. --JonRidinger (talk) 04:18, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Continuation of discussion over notability of Ohio high school sports conferences

Hello. You are receiving this message because you recently participated in an AfD discussion regarding the notability of high school sports conferences in Ohio State. While the AfD has been closed as no consensus, the discussion is continuing here. You are invited to participate. Thank you. --Jaysweet (talk) 20:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
