[edit] Alphabet
The Aganean alphabet rebyr uas dybå or rebyr drasd ladeu
a å (à) b bg c cg d dg e ë g h hg l m n o õ (ò) p r s s´ u ù y
notes: bg, cg, dg, and hg are considered letters in their own right, and are collated after b, c, d and h respectively. Letters in parentheses (à and ò) are considered variations of a and o, and not seperate letters. Aganean contains no f, i, j, k, q, t, v, w, x or z. Aganean does not use capital letters.
- a - as in father.
- å - as in cat.
- b - covers the group of phonemes from English b to v. Usually similar to a stopped v. May also sound like an unstopped v between vowels or at the end of a word.
- bg - officially the same sound as an English b, but in practice, this sound has merged with Aganean "b".
- c - as in cat.
- cg - as in German Bach, but raspier, often reduced to c or h.
- d - as in dog, but with tongue touching the roof of mouth.
- dg voiced cg, often reduced to g.
- e - as in get in closed syllables, as in saute in open syllables.
- ë - as in feet.
- g - as in get, also used in combinations.
- h - voiced h
- hg - unvoiced "hiss", now often silent.
- l - as in lemon, but often like w betweem vowels or at the end of words.
- m - as in mouse.
- n - as in nelly.
- o - as in ocean.
- õ - (also often written with a macron or breve) diphthong as in boy, also written oë at the beginning or end of a word.
- p - covers the series of phonemes from English p to f, usually sounds like a stopped f, but also like an unstopped "f" between vowels or at the end of a word.
- r - uvular r as in French or German.
- s - as in sin.
- s´ - light sh as in sheep.
- u, ù - oo as in moon in accented syllables, oo as in good in unaccented syllables. Before other vowels, u sounds like English y as in year, except with a grave accent, when it always is sounded as in moon, no matter the accent. Some reduce the grave accented letter to a w as in winter, as well as the non-grave-accented u after another vowel (but not before another vowel, and sounded like y).
- y - always a vowel as in fly. Also spelled aë at the beginning and end of words.
