[edit] Early talk
Papelbon has stated he prefers to be called Jonathan. Perhaps the page should be moved. He's not yet listed on baseball-reference.com (the closest thing the web has to a standard reference), but if he's listed there under Jonathan after the season ends I will suggest moving the page. - Since I got no objections, I went ahead and moved it. Sorry for any inconvenience. Chick Bowen 14:30, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Josh Papelbon link?
I removed it because this isn't his page. Hope there's no problem with that. Of course, if there is, you can restore the link...and I can remove it...and you can restore it....etc. :) -Wikitoddia 02:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ancestry
Is he of Cajun heritage? 24.192.17.34 04:31, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
No, actually he is german. The name used to be Papelbaum, untill his ancestors moved to the US, and changed it to Papelbon.
[edit] Free Agent
When will he be a free agent? Right now he makes a laughable $330,000. 68.9.171.207 15:50, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Tommy
- He's a rookie right now, so the Sox have him under their control for at least 5 seasons, I think. I don't know when arbitration eligibility comes into play, but the most he'll make anytime soon is a couple million before free agency kicks in, unless the Sox tie him up long term. --badlydrawnjeff talk 15:56, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's not laughable that he makes so little right now; that's the way the system works. Teams control a players' income for the first 3 years, then their salary increases as they go through a few years of arbitration, until free agency after 6 years unless the Redsox split the difference at some point and make a long-term contract pitch to him Chancat74 20:36, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Place in 2007
I know he might be in the rotation in '07, but is there a source for this? I've also heard he might close again, though only if they get a top free agent starter and no better closer. Grand Slam 7 21:32, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Trivia
The trivia section (aka miscellany) needs to be incorporated into the article. Quadzilla99 17:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Update: Gave Trivia the correct title. Quadzilla99 01:02, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Somebody ought to add in a remark of some sort about his intimidating stare. While not an avid red sox fan, every single game I've ever happened to catch when he is pitching has included the game announcers mentioning his "evil stare" and the camera ALWAYS zooms in on his face before his stretch, something they hardly ever do for most other MLB pitchers.
[edit] Hey
someone needs to edit out the last line of garbage in the paragraph about his pitching repertoire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikenet (talk • contribs) 03:29, August 26, 2007 (UTC)
- I deleted the reference; it has no documentation and does not take into account that it is very likely this supposed pitch is simply one variation which can been tried at points past. To claim a new pitch invention after 150+ years of playing the gameis very untenable. Chancat74 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chancat74 (talk • contribs) 20:41, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
This entire article is a little... subjective? I appreciate all the information about Papelbon's pitches, but it could be written a bit more objectively. Toddbcpl 03:22, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Personality
I added a section about his personality, but someone keeps deleting it. I guess if you point out someone's faults, some fan is going to pretend they don't exist. I tried to be as fair about it as possible. Just thought I would mention it in case someone decides to write a version that Red Sox Nation approves of.
