[edit] Image deletion

The photograph. It was deleted earlier today, but I have reposted. I am both the photographer and the copyright holder, and there is no reason why it should be deleted. I am sure that it was only done so in the bestspirit possible, and I have no intention of starting an argument. I hope this is OK

The thing is that you do have to say so and clarify the copyright situation when you add a picture. Then again the deletion of them does seem to have been rather swift as you haven't had a alot of time to address the situation (you only got an automated message about it yesterday). If you upload your pictures again (and I think you should) make sure you add on the right tags. See the advice here but if you are unsure I'm sure what to do I'm sure one of the deleters of your image would b happy to help you avoid the same thing happening again. I DID say so, and the bloody thing has been deleted for the second time, even though I captioned it "from the collection of Jon Downes used by permission". What do I do now? Lazarus 14:23, 19 November 2006

Looking through the notice on your Jon Downes photo (it is up for speedy deletion) it appears they don't make it easy for people to add their own pictures [1] [2] [3] and, ironically, you have to jump through a lot more hoops than if you were using someone else's image from a commercial source. Your best bet appears to be uploading it at Wikimedia and/or making it freely available under a broad license like GFDL (I've used GFDL on the photos I've uploaded). Hope that helps. Thanks mate.... It is bloody stupid tho (User:Lazarusx 19:12, 19 November 2006 (UTC))

Yes I'd forgotten how tricky it all was. The problem is that the content of Wikipedia is licensed so it can be spread to other sites and shared but if an image is uploaded on the understanding that it can only be used here on Wikipedia it causes real problems with the distribution and keeping licensing consistent. (Emperor 19:26, 19 November 2006 (UTC))

well i think it is ok now. I just hope i don't have the problems there were easrilier on this article when someone insisted on rewriting the page to have me married to someone I had never heard of (User:Lazarusx 22:55, 19 November 2006 (UTC))

That kind of thing stopped happening to me when I gave up drinking in Vegas ;) (Emperor 22:59, 19 November 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Notability, Autobiography, COI, and POV Issues

This page was primarily created by Lazarusx (Jonathan Downes, the article's subject), BillPetrovic (Bill Petrovic, his staff writer), and Emperor (also his staff writer). This raises concerns about conflict of interest which are confirmed by the article's highly aggrandizing point of view. If edits to this article cannot be made that demonstrate how Jonathan Downes is a notable figure who has been covered significantly by sources other than his own Center for Fortean Zoology, I will nominate this article for deletion. [edit] Notability, Autobiography, COI, and POV Issues

Whilst it is true that I am Jon Downes, I have no idea who Emperor is. My changes to the article have been mainly to change erroneous data - for example, the claim that in 2004 I was going to marry someone called "Lisa". Lazarusx

+++ I have added a whole string of references to prove that I am who I say I am, and that I do not exixt purely in my own imagination. These include a Fortean Times website article reaDING:

"Jon Downes is director the Centre for Fortean Zoology and frequent contributor to FT. He lives in Exeter with an ever-shifting population of reptiles." I can assure you that that description was not written by me, and if you do not believe me I suggest that you contact the editor of the magazine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.66.223 (talk) 15:23, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
