Talk:Jon Soltz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Unremarkable???!!!"

Soltz has been interviewed by the Associated Press, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Associated Press and the LA Times. He has made numerous media appearances including Jim Lehrer’s Newshour on PBS, CNN’s Inside Politics, National Public Radio and the Alan Colmes show.

Which of these has East718 ever been on? Chicostudent 07:48, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

August 17, 2007: The last paragraph currently reads: "Soltz is an outspoken critic of the Iraq War and attended the 2007 YearlyKos Convention in Chicago, where he was on the panel for the "The Military and Progressives: Are They Really That Different" session. At the end of the debate, a sergeant in a Class A green uniform told the panelists and audience that the surge in Iraq is currently working. Soltz pointed out that the sergeant was violating military code by wearing this uniform while making political statements."

This is opinion. If the sergeant was stating facts, that is not proscribed, and will not necessarily be deemed as "political statements." Wikipedia is not the appropriate forum to make this determination, and there is no evidence that such a judgement by an official military panel has been made.

The Wikipedia community should not use this article to impugn the sergeant's honor or reputation.

Additionally, this episode generated many news stories and was debated. Notably, articles (both in favor and against Soltz's actions) appeared on the Kos website.

In light of the above, the final paragraph will now be changed to read: "Soltz is an outspoken critic of the Iraq War and attended the 2007 YearlyKos Convention in Chicago, where he was on the panel for the "The Military and Progressives: Are They Really That Different" session. At the end of the debate, a sergeant in a Class A green uniform addressed the panel. Soltz confronted the sergeant and alleged that he was making political statements while in uniform (video can be viewed here. This episode was the subject of considerable controversy, and Soltz was criticized at the Daily Kos website for his behavior[1], although another article on the Kos website defended Soltz[2]."
