Jonathon Riley

Major-General Jonathon Peter Riley, CB, DSO (born January 16, 1955) is a British Army officer.
He joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers in 1973 and was awarded a medal for bravery in 1996. He has served six tours in Northern Ireland, five in the Balkans, in addition to service in Central America and Sierra Leone, and has been commanding troops in Iraq since 2004.
Riley was brought up in Yorkshire, and educated at St Mary's School in Beverley and Kingston School, before gaining a degree in geography from University College, London, and a Master's degree in history at Leeds University. He is the partner of BBC Wales news presenter Sara Edwards. Their first child was born in 2006.
He was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
