Jonathan Coushaine is a character in HBO's Oz, played by Bryan Callen.
[edit] Character overview
He evidently arrived in Em City after the 1997 riot. In season 2 of the series, he seems to be a leader of the Christian inmates and their representative on the Em City council. It is never stated why he is in Oz (there is no "crime scene flashback" for the character) but it is hinted that he is a child molester. He used to teach High School and so is appointed by Tim McManus to teach the GED course. After the end of the second season the character was dropped and nothing further was said of him, making him one of the few inmate characters to be written out of the series without having to suffer an on-screen death.
[edit] Season 2
As soon Emerald City is reopened, McManus asks Coushaine, the Christians leader, to teach the GED course, because he used to teach High School. Coushaine is attacked by Kenny Wangler who is a disruptive presence in the class due to Wangler's inability to read. Coushaine and McManus chose Poet to be the first of the class. McManus makes Wangler don't go in the graduation party with the rest of the class, as Timmy Kirk, Don Zanghi and Sanjay Afsana. After that, Coushaine, with all the other gangs, gives Bob Rebadow money to send his grandson to Disneyland. After the second season, Coushaine is never seen again.
