Jonas Staugaitis

Jonas Staugaitis (pronunciation , (May 20, 1868 – January 18, 1952) was the fourth President of Lithuania in December of 1926. During the 1926 Lithuanian coup d'état‎ he was formally elected for few hours as the Speaker of Seimas and as the highest official became de jure President of Lithuania. He renounced the office after the coup d'état.

He was a doctor, having studied in Warsaw University. In 1919, he was elected to Lithuanian parliament (Seimas) as a member of the Peasant Populist Party. On June 2, 1926, he was elected the head of Seimas.

He is buried in Petrašiūnai cemetery (Kaunas).
