Jolly bus

The Jolly Bus was the colloquial term for buses that ran on the scheduled service operated by the W.H. Jolly Company, an independent bus company based in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, England. The Jolly Bus would run from Sunderland town centre (map) to Evesham (map) and Claxheugh Road (map) in South Hylton.
W. H. Jolly also ran a small number of coaches.
Pressure from other services after dereugulation, coupled with the announcement of the Tyne & Wear Metro extension to Sunderland and South Hylton caused the company to close in the early 1990s.
The Jolly Bus "trademark" features were both the colour, cream with a brown stripe, and the rear seat, made of varnised wooden slats.
After the company closed the buses were sold to other companies. It is believed that KTY 23X was sold to Emsworth & District Motor Services before being donated to Asia Bus Response, as a response to the Tsunami Disaster of 26 December 2004.
