[edit] Image:Street artist2.jpg

Howdy - I was looking at the source for this image and I noticed that the license is {{cc-by-nd}}, not the {{cc-by}} present on the Wikipedia page. Has the copyright on the source page changed since you uploaded the image? In that case I think it is fine to make a note of that on the image page and keep the image. If not, the image will probably need to be deleted since cc-by-nd is considered 'non-free' on Wikipedia. Thanks! -SCEhardT 14:51, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Robert T. Collins

I believe you deleted my submission on Robert T. Collins because his bio cannot be verified through an independent source. His bio would include his birth date, family and education. To edit out the one line which refered to this would be reasonable. Deleting the entire entry is heavy handed.

Is there a standard for the position of the WikiCommons gallery template on a page? I moved the template to use the negative space next to the gallery and you moved it back at the end of the page. Danleo 15:43, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

The Commons template was overlapping the photos of the gallery, so I moved it. There is no standard position for this template, but it usually placed at the end (or somewhere close to the end) of the article. JoJan 15:54, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted image

Hi!

You seem to have deleted Image:Corner-wulogo-2nd.jpg that was being used on the Washington University in St. Louis page. The image was of the school's logo. we have been having a bit of an edit war over at the page (see talk page) on whether to use the school's logo or seal on the main page. A representative of the school seems to have given permission to use the logo but objects to using the seal. There is some discussion about whether the seal could still be used under fair use. With the logo deleted and no image on the page, I'm sure somone will restore the seal. Can you help put the logo back up while we get this sorted out? Thanks! TMS63112 21:22, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

I can put the logo back after you have sorted this out. You state : A representative of the school seems to have given permission to use the logo. This is not enough. A written permission by a school representative added on the talk page of that image will do.
As to the deletion process, User:Astuishin was duly notified that this image would be deleted. He didn't answer. Therefore it was deleted after seven days. Luckily deleted images can be undeleted. Therefore sort things out and make sure that you follow the Wikipedia guidelines this time. JoJan 05:43, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lycastes

Hi: I have added an entry on a favorite orchid genus, Lycaste. Since you originated Taxonomy of the Orchid Family, I thought you might be interested. Drbillellis 17:00, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

As you may have guessed, I am a beginner. The Lycaste article was my first. Lyc. longipetala was a great choice for the taxobox. How did you get a pic, and so fast, that is legitimate to put on Wikipedia? Drbillellis 18:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, for a beginner you did very well. I just had to add a taxobox, an image and do some wikifying and editing. As to the image, Wikipedia has a common repository for images, audio and video : the Wikimedia Commons. All images (or almost all) are categorized. So, Lycaste can then be found in the Commons:Category:Lycaste. As to the taxobox, you can copy and paste them from other orchid pages, applying the necessary changes. You can find the guidelines in Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life/taxobox usage and general guidelines in Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life and Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants. I hope that you will add some more articles. There are still so many articles lacking in this very large family of orchids. JoJan 18:30, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Translation

Hi JoJan, here is the translation. First, a literal reproduction of the German text as fas as I was able to decipher the hand writing:

Liebe Stephanie,

Du bist von meiner
Gegenwart und Plage
befreit; werde glücklich
auf Deine Art.
Sei gut für die
arme Kleine, die das
einzige ist, was von
mir übrig bleibt.
Allen Bekannten,
besonders (Name?),
(Name?), (Name?), (Name?),
Gisela, Leopold, etc.
etc. sage meine
letzten Grüße.
Ich gehe ruhig in
den Tod, der allein
meinen guten Namen
retten kann.
Sei herzlichst
umarmt. Dein
Dich liebender

Rudolph

Now my English translation:

Dear Stephanie, you are now rid of by presence and annoyance. Be happy in your own way. Take care of the poor wee one, she is the only that will remain of me. To all acquaintances, especially (here follows a list of probably four unreadable names), Gisela, Leopold, etc., etc., say my last greetings. I go quietly into my death, which alone can save my good name. Be heartily hugged. Your loving Rudolph.

Hope it helps. If these unreadable names are of any significance, let me know. I will then try to find a clue. --Uwe 09:55, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Begonia1.jpg "Begonia aconitifolia"

I questioned the label of this picture. So I asked for comment from an online discussion group populated by members of the American Begonia Society. One of the respondents was none other than Jack Golding, principal author of Begoniaceae, Smithsonian contributions to botany : no. 60 (1986), who stated "I agree with you and Julie, their picture is not Begonia aconitifolia A. de Candolle. It probably is a cultivar."

I am so new to the Wikipedia community that I am hesitant to try to edit the picture. I would like to ask that same discussion group for a representative picture of begoniaceae for the article. What sort of copyright info is required? Is there a waiver form on Wikipedia? (I promise to go read some FAQs, but I wanted to get this change rolling.)

--Begonial 11:44, 5 September 2006 (UTC) (I decided to use a signature different from my real name which I used as my username.)

Good points for noticing the misnomer. Begonia with its +1,500 species, is a difficult genus. My botany book has many photos of begonias but doesn't give any photo at all of Begonia aconitifolia. But the two Google pictures available show a different plant indeed. If you are sure of the new name, you can change it in the article (or just change it into Begonia (cultivar) ). There are many representative photos of begonias in the Commons Commons:Category:Begoniaceae. If you want to upload your own photos, then the Commons is the recommended place (since the photos will then be available to all wikipedias in more than 240 languages). You can find links for the procedure and the mandatory copyrights at the upload page of the Commons:Upload file [1]. Every photo in the Commons must belong to an article. If there is no article yet for that particular species, the you must must create a new article (Fill in the search box with the species name; click on GO; you'll get a red link that wil enable you to create a new article). Every article must be linked to the Category:Begoniaceae. Look in existing articles for the codes and the methods to be used. Try it out in your new article and you'll see it is easy.

If there is already an article for that species, then just add your photo to it. As to the required copyrights on wikipedia : all photos must be without copyright and fall under the GFDL guidelines (GFDL = GNU Free Document License) or the other available licenses, as explained in the Commons. I suppose you'll still have questions, so feel free to ask. JoJan 14:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Excuse me

You made the changes to Leaning Tower of Pisa today at 18.25 GMT (see History of that article), unless your IP is a shared IP. Then somebody else could have done it. Anyway, no harm done. I've made a rollback. The problem is that this article gets vandalised quite often, leading to a waste of time and effort for the authors. JoJan 20:02, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pieter van der Aa

Hello JoJan, I recently cleaned up part of your contribution for Pieter van der Aa, specifically the entry for Alphabetum Grandonico Malabaricum because it looked like a cut-and-paste error. Now I realize that perhaps the Alphabetum shouldn't be there at all, since it was published after his death and its publisher is normally listed as Congregatio de Propaganda Fide. Just want to confirm this before I delete it. I'm guessing this book got accidentally included when copying text from a list of old books? I've seen it listed next to or near works published by Pieter van der Aa. Peani 14:19, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Back to January 2005 ! It looks like you found a flaw in my article. I can't remember how I made a connection between this book and Pieter van der Aa. All Google searches give replicas of this article. Therefore, you can delete this entry. Thanks for letting me know in advance. JoJan 14:38, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

I've taken care of it. Talk to you later! Peani 13:51, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello JoJan

JoJan, Hi ho! I will not write much because this message has almost nothing to do with Wikipedia. I mean: I want to say hello and think of you fondly as an eMail "Buddy" and your dedication to the Wikipedia project. I have lost your eMail sometime ago because the computer crashed, earsing all my contacts accordingly. I have been busy too this past year; moreso than other years recently and am beginning to foresee my return to the University of Virginia's School of Architecture (9th in the nation), Department of Landscape Architecture (one of the top five schools in the US). I have to finsh my design-thesis; for which I have 2/3rds to completted before I became sick with chonic pain syndromes. Anyway, you home page is great and befitting a man like yourself who is so dilligent and dedicated. I know this expression goes against the ways and means of Wikipedia; but I wish the two articles I edited for you had stayed closer to what I wrote. That was a testimony to my many thanks to you and your advise in starting the Wiki Pachypodium; which still needs more work. Interestingly, the author Lurthy whose name appears prominently in the book I based the Wiki Pachypodium on have named another species of Pachypodium--P. mikea. So the species count continues to grow, though this taxon is not some rare P. rosuatum-like (sp.?) species found in one valley and no where else. Apparently this species is vary similiar to P. gayei (sp.?) in trunk (cigar-like) and leaf (long lanceoate (?) extremely narrorly leaves when conparied to other arborescent Pachypodia. What elevated it to a species, despite its common appearence to botanists who saw in convergence with P. gayei (?), is the quite distinct characteristics of the flower, which is very diffeent from P. gayei. Since flower differences define in a considerably significant manner the characteristics of speciation of Pachypodium; it seems a legitimate decision to name P. makea. I am more of a "clumber" than a "splitter" so I take seriously the naming of a new taxon in light of a heuristic (?) meaning of the genus. One of the biggest questions I have as a student of philosophy and amatuer botantist is how flower differences in a lot of genra do not have any significance to the naming of the species. But if the species is highly valued something in the taxonomical debat emerges to define a species in much greater resolution using often flower characteristics such as Orchids (especially!) and Haworthia (the significance of the perianth), and Pachypodium where the P. rosulatum-like complex is defined in part largely on differences of the flower. Botanists debate the P. rosatum-complex as being either one species or many. So far "many" has pervailed. I think I would clumb the P. rosulatum complex into as few species as I could get away with under scurtinity. I mean when P. bicolor, I believe, is given species status because mainly the flower's collora has a white difuse band as opposed to P. rosatum that does not have this white band; it seems we are so overvauling a genus as opposed to the "four-O'Clock" species that blooms in a myriad number of colors but is not valued for distinct colors. I do not know. Gordon Rowley feels the same way I do and places all the species of the P. rosatum-complex under variety level. So . . . I am writing a lot. Its been a long time since we wrote. I hope you're fine. I know how busy you are despite being retired but if yu want to write to me please do not use my Wikipedia User Page etc. because I am not active. Instead try my eMail: tdwin476@gmail.com. ---- Take care and hope to hear from you. Tim Winchester, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.

mvg, --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 01:05, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

210.18.215.131, too -- a persistent minor pain to clean up after every day or two. 5 last warnings; 28 edits over 10 days since last block - I checked and every single one was vandalistic. It's nice to get an admin who'll finally block someone like that. Thanks again! --A. B. 15:49, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Talk:Poland

Thanks for your intervention. Jacek Kendysz 00:02, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello ;)

So , before accusing people of adding nonsense, I invite you to talk about this and to prove it.

To receive the jacek kendysz version is simple, but there is also mine.

Can I give you an exemple : before doing intervention, ask questions to the different parts, it will be wiser and clever from you ;)

Removing a whole block of text is vandalism. JoJan 20:55, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Removing the text that I have written is not vandalism

Deleting private informations, like a link to a website is also not vandalism

Nevertheless, to keep my link of this website on this wikipedia pages is breaking the law

All webmasters has the full right to ask any link of his site to be removed from any webpages !

So, I am in my full right to delete the article link to swietapolska.net

And the law, international treaties, are superior to the wikipedia policy and contract !

Do you want to belong to a group wich contributes to break the law ?

So delete this article about my site and you will be quiet.

If wikipedians editors are clever, they should think how to avoid conflict.

(Now, the case can be solved with an SQL injection)

[edit] Deletion summaries

Hi, I have noticed that you often provide only a very short abbreviated deletion summary when you delete pages (like "a7" "nn-bio" and similar). Please keep in mind that most users do not know all of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria by heart. Please consider providing a brief "plain English" explanation without relying exclusively on "CSD jargon". Additionally linking to the relevant criteria so people can read it in full can also be useful, for example [[WP:CSD#A7]]. This will help a "layperson" better understand why something was deleted when looking at the deletion log.

Most browsers have a autocomplete or other "form filling" features that allow pre-prepared boil plate texts to be inserted into web forms with just a few keystrokes. This is useful for inserting detailed deletion summaries without having to type out the same things over and over. Please consider looking into it. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 16:54, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dutch wiki

Hi Jo - I noticed (with some surprise) that the nl: link for Douglas-fir was changed from nl:Douglasspar (geslacht) to nl:Pseudotsuga. I went across to the relevant page on Dutch wiki to see if it really had been moved, and discovered that the 'move' from one to the other is actually not a proper page move, but an improper cut-and-paste move which has lost the page's history. I would guess this will need to be sorted out by an admin on Dutch wiki: can you do it, or ask someone to do it? (my command of the Dutch language is regrettably negligible). Thanks, MPF 11:01, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I've alerted Teun Spaans who is an admin in the nl.wikipedia. JoJan 13:51, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] On wheels

In future, do you think I should bother tagging all the new pages for speedies, or should I trust the admin in question to trawl through the pagemoves and do it himself? Thanks. yandman 14:16, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Spam" Links

Hey there, Quick question/note about your recent edit on Okemo Mountain's external links. The link you removed was the official link to Okemo's home page. I'm still undecided on that, but we had a discussion yesterday and decided to leave the link on, as articles like Wal-Mart have links to their official page as well. Thoughts? Searles2sels (PJ) 15:25, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion, this site fell under the spam policy of Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Spam) : links intended to promote a site, especially if that site's primary purpose is to advertise or sell products or services or if the link consists of public relations pieces designed to promote a company or individual. I had received an angry email from someone that I had blocked for linkspamming and promoting his lodges in a US winter resort. He pointed to me that were so many others doing the same thing, giving several examples. I then spent some time deleting a lot of spam links on several pages, one of which was Okemo Mountain. I was somewhat astounded that no one had noticed this before. Anyway, Wikipedia is not a web directory and external links should be used sparingly and only if they can add some encyclopedic value. I hope you understand this. JoJan 16:00, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Makes perfect sense when you explain it like that. Thanks! Searles2sels (PJ) 16:11, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] semiprotect Leaf

Hi JoJan - what would you think about semiprotecting leaf? It has been getting a lot of nonsense edits and blanking recently - I count 18 indentified reversions in the last 50 edits, spanning about 5 weeks, or 1 reversion every 2 days. Is that frequent enough to merit semiprotection? Debivort 21:51, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

I've noticed this continued vandalism as well. Anayway, I've given a semiprotection to this article. I did the same at Apple and all vandalism seems to have stopped over there. Let's hope the same for this article. JoJan 06:20, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article about Wikipedia Users

Hello,

Wikipedia user David Badagnani directed me to your user page. I am a freelance writer working on an article about the wide array of people who make Wikipedia their life, their passion, their pastime. Wikipedia “addicts” if you will. I’m looking for people just willing to tell their story of how they got sucked into the intellectual whirlwind that is Wikipedia; how you got started editing, how the obsession grew, and what you spend your time focusing on these days? Do you write articles from scratch? Is your main push toward one particular type of article? Do you patrol for typos and errors, or spend your time diligently fixing vandalism? Do you take part in the “social aspects” of Wikipedia; engaging in animated discussions or decorating your user page with all sorts of internet memes? Have you ever forced yourself to take a “Wikipedia break”? If so, what’s your 20/20 hindsight on the obsession? Basically I’m just trying to get an idea of what it’s like for various Wikipedia “addicts.” If you are interested in participating, please email me at brianwrites@gmail.com

If anybody else, other than this user is interested in participating, feel free to email me as well. This article is intended to be a light informational piece, nothing too heavy or controversial, just merely introducing readers to a subculture that they likely had no idea existed. So please don’t email me with your conspiracy theories, or your grudge against the Wikipedia hierarchy… unless it directly applies to your overall experience with the site. This article is about the USERS, not about the pros and cons of the site itself.

Thanks,

Brian68.39.158.205 01:47, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cracidae

Hi Jojan. I think Craciformes (Megapodiidae and Cracidae) is the more modern treatment, also used by ITIS. If you are prepared to do the fixes to the articles like Galliformes and Cracidae, I'd support the change. jimfbleak 07:29, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

It's still risky to interfere in this taxonomy, since even some modern studies place the Cracidae in the Galliformes. JoJan 18:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AIV

Thanks for blocking that repeat vandal. Now that he/she has had a 31 and a 48 hour block, if there is further vandalism, would admins consider blocking any anon activity from that IP? --Dweller 14:53, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Any new vandalism will lead to incremental longer blocks. This user can only edit again in the blocking period, if he/she registers as a new user with a username. Anon activity was blocked. JoJan 15:10, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. Under what circumstances would all anon activity from an IP be blocked? --Dweller 15:13, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
The options "Block anonymous users only" and " Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent addresses they try to edit from" are standard. But the blocking admin may deviate from this standard and use his/her good judgment case per case. JoJan 15:20, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:195.225.189.7

You've just blocked the above user for 24 hours. This looks reasonable since this is a shared IP. of the Warwickshire County Council. However, if you look at the last entry of this user : [4], you'll see that this wasn't just ordinary vandalism, but a grave accusation against a living person that could cause serious harm to Wikipedia. That entry occurred at 15.33 (my European time zone), while you blocked the IP at 15.34. So it is quite possible that you hadn't seen this edit. I've reverted it at 15.34, so that the possibility that anyone has read this is close to zero. In my opinion a much longer block is warranted, even if it is a shared IP. Even an OFFICE action could be warranted to erase the history of this edit in Chelsea F.C.. You better take a second look. JoJan 15:02, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it looks like they snuck that one in as I was maneuvering between their talk page and the contribution page and the block page and the AIV page (I guess I need to tighten up my process for the order of pages I visit). As far as the actual vandalism itself, that seems fairly tame to me actually. The second part of the same edit is clearly nonsense which I figure would make the entire edit difficult to take seriously. It seems pretty benign to me but, by all means, get a second opinion - you've been at this a lot longer than me! You could always delete the article and restore every version but the vandalism. (I've never done that and I'm sure some would frown on it - but you could). —Wknight94 (talk) 17:11, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
No harm has been done at the moment because I could intervene just in time (I was in the act of investigating the actions of this user before blocking him - but you beat me to that). Soon that edit by this vandal will be dug deep in the history and will vanish in the mist of time. Therefore deleting the history may be a bit too drastic, unless Wikipedia receives a complaint. But then that is another matter and warrants an OFFICE action. But I had hoped that you would have given a stiffer block, since these are matters not be dealt with lightly even if the second part was pretty benign). But on the other hand I'm a bit adverse overruling another admin. JoJan 17:28, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Not at all. Overrule away! No offense taken. I overrule folks all the time!  :) —Wknight94 (talk) 18:12, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maple List

Hi JoJan. I noted you reverted my edits to the maple list. I appreciate your vigilance, but I am an amateur expert on Genus Acer and have been reorganizing this material. For example, I rewrote the article on Fullmoon Maple which previously indicated that all varieties of A. japonicum came under this heading, which is false. If you go to my user page you'll note the work I've done on maples. Unless you have specific points to discuss, please let me go ahead. Thanks again for your tending the maple list and best wishes while Wiking! - HouseOfScandal 21:11, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Quick question

Why did you rollback this edit? It appears by a quick scan that the user was correct re Fullmoon Maple - but regardless seemed a good faith edit, one certainly not worthy of a vandalism rollback I would think?  Glen  21:29, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] USERNAME_VIOLATION (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log)

Hi JoJan, I noticed you tagged the above and someone reported it to AIV to block but there's no such user? Just wondering if Im crazy or where did you see it? Thanks!  Glen  14:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Right. I tagged the user page and the talk page with the template UsernameBlock (check my history), but when I wanted to give an indef block, the answer was that there is no such user. I've tried it several times, even with an underscore between USERNAME and VIOLATION. I simply don't understand this. Is this a bug in the system or is this user just too clever for us ? [edit] Vandal at tennis

[edit] Proper use of Trademarks

On 2006-08-07 less than an hour after I corrected it you mistakenly edited Anionic_addition_polymerization. You incorrectly used the term "Plexiglass®" even going so far as to put the "®" for registered trademark after it. "Plexiglass" is not a word, "Plexiglas®" is a trademark of Rohm_and_Haas. I do not understand your intention. I'm sure you saw my note explaining the proper usage, yet you went ahead anyway. If you do not understand this concept I can discuss it with you further. Please see Proper_adjective#Trademarks for more information.Tstrobaugh 21:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I removed the trademark name and replaced it by its general name. JoJan 06:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] False accusation

The said vandalism you accused me of was my attempt to FIX it. I don't appreciate being accused of something I didn't do. No wonder I don't edit stuff on this, try and help and this —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.251.153.39 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC).

See [5]. On second thoughts, this looks more like a botched attempt to fix vandalism, leaving parts of the vandalism untouched and not restoring blanked parts of the article. User:Jim Douglas reverted all previous attempts to the last stable version. These things can happen when you're inexperienced with the wiki-language and nobody really takes offence at such first attempts. A soft warning is given and no harm is done. We all had to go through this learning process. JoJan 09:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit]  ?

Hello JoJan. Why did you just delete my page when i was providing infomation to a community of gamers. How can i display an article about a famous player on wikipedia? (I am new) Davetherave UK

Nothing personal, but the article simply doesn't conform to the guidelines of Wikipedia:Notability (people). Furthermore, all claims of notability must be verifiable by citing independent sources, such as articles in newspapers, computer magazines etc... JoJan 17:42, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image on es:Signario íbero

Hi. You have added the image on the left to the article es:Signario íbero. If the stone is in the Beja museum, it is very improbable that it is Iberian writing, it probably is es:Idioma tartésico. Can you confirm the fact? I will eliminate the image from the article in the meanwhile. --Ecelan 19:00, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I relied on the text (in Portuguese) from the museum [6] : "Da Idade do Ferro, fazem parte um conjunto de lajes com a mais antiga forma de escrita na Península Ibérica. Conhecida como escrita Ibérica, mantém-se até hoje indecifrável, apesar dos inúmeros estudos efectuados por especialistas de diferentes áreas." (the bolding was by me). From this explanation I understood that this was Iberian script. But I'm certainly not an expert in this matter. I just took the picture while visiting the museum, as the writing on the stone didn't seem familiar to me (I first thought it was Phoenician). I don't understand Portuguese nor Spanish (I have to rely on my knowledge of French and Latin). If you're in any way familiar with these matters, you can change the caption of the photo. I think this image is too important (and probably rare) to be left unmentioned in Wikipedia. JoJan 19:25, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
See also Commons:Image:Beja49.jpg, if this is helpful to you. JoJan 19:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
On further consideration, thius might be Tartessian language, as the stone was found in the southern Alentejo. JoJan 19:56, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pippa Who?

Thank you for finding the typo in the Pippa Scott article I created. I thought months might go by before anyone even looked at that article and am amazed you found the error just a few hours after I created it. Do you have my user page on your watch list or something? I wouldn't mind at all, it gives me a little comfort whenever I know something I've done has been proofread at least once. Thanks again! HouseOfScandal House of Scandal 05:47, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

No thanks at all. I was doing a short RC patrol before closing up for the day, when I saw your username. As you usually write botany articles, I was wondering what this might be. And so I saw the typo. You're not on my watchlist (about 930 items). JoJan 08:48, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism only accounts and username violations

Hi, there. You recently blocked InvaderZim'sChoad (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log) for 24 hours, but such accounts that are clearly created for the sole purpose of vandalism are regularly blocked indefinitely for being vandalism only accounts. Also, this account in particular was a username violation as it's offensive (choad is a slang term for a part of the human anatomy, to put things nicely :D). Just letting you know that I reblocked the account indefinitely, and not to hesitate in the future with indefinitely blocking vandalism only accounts if it's clear that they have no hope of changing. A dinstinction I tend to make would be destructive named accounts and simply named accounts testing around - ones who fill articles with obscenities or remove the text in them are clearly disruptive, but accounts that might simply add 'hi' into articles or clearly be testing around should be given more leeway, as it's more likely such people may want to become productive editors. Thanks. Cowman109Talk 16:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Fine with me. I had also considered an indef block, but decided against it, as to give the user another chance. BTW the word "choad" is completely unknown to me. It isn't even mentioned in my dictionary of "slang and euphemism". JoJan 16:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I have no idea how I had even heard of it before myself - too much slang these days :D. What happened to English *pouts*. Cowman109Talk 16:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tingye Li

If you look at the article history, you will see that I marked it so when it was simply one line of unsourced text. At that point it did deserve a "speedy". However, there have been massive overhauls (c. 90 edits) to the page since then - and either of the people that worked on the article could have taken the "speedy" tag off of it - and you could have as well (anyone but the creator, if I read CSD guidelines correctly.

I have removed both the speedy & the hangon tags from the article, which obviously doesn't warrent speedy or, imho, prodded deletion. SkierRMH 19:05, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] William Hawi

Hi there, since you contested the proposal to speedy delete this article I would like to inform you that I have nominated it for deletion. I still believe that it will take too much work to rewrite it, the article is written in a very biased language and looks much like a copyright violation. You are welcome to comment. Cheers, ArchStanton 07:35, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
