Joint Management Entrance Test
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "Joint Management Entrance Test" (JMET) is the first step in the process of seeking admission to the 2-Year full time Post-Graduate Degree Programs in Management offered by the IITs & IISc. Currently IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay (SJMSoM), IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur (VGSoM), IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee are offering such Programs in Management. The IITs and IISc use the results of JMET to short-list the candidates for subsequent part of the selection process.
JMET is only a qualifying examination to seek admission. It is not mandatory that all candidates who are declared as qualified will be called for Group Discussion / Interview etc. Calling the candidates for such later process of selection is the prerogative of the admitting Institute.
The exam is an aptitude test conducted by each one of the IIT's in a rotation policy. The exam tests the candidate's knowledge of mathematics, data interpretation, logical reasoning and English usage.
The test is conducted annually in the month of December, and comprises questions in multiple choice format. From 2007 onwards sectional cut-offs have been introduced. Candidates clearing all the 4 sectional cut-offs receive an All India Rank (AIR). The GD/PI calls are given out on basis of a candidates AIR and his overall profile which includes past academics, extra-curriculars and work experience.
