[edit] Bronze star list

You recently created List of Korean War veterans who are recipients of The Bronze Star.

Is this intended to be a list of veterans who received the Bronze Star medal for actions during the Korean War; or, more generally, as the name implies, Bronze Star medal recipients who are veterans of the Korean War (could have received the award for WW2 actions, not Korean War actions)?

Please add a lead paragraph to the list to explain the scope of the list.

A comments on formatting:

 • See also sections are intended to be bulleted lists. So, when you add this article to the section, please include a bullet.

ERcheck (talk) 19:47, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

One other comment, before you get too much further: On titles — "the" in the article title should be lower case. In particular, "List of Korean War veterans who are recipients of the Bronze Star". — ERcheck (talk) 20:02, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Georgia General Assembly

I noticed that you made significant contributions to the GGA article. (Thanks, BTW!) However, I also noticed that you hadn't referenced any of the content. If you were meaning to at some point in the near future, then great (I understand how referencing everything after writing so much can be a pain), but if you're unfamiliar with the policy and practice of citing your sources on Wikipedia, I suggest checking out WP:CITE for pointers. I'd also be willing to help if you can at least remember where you got some of your info. You can reach me on my talk page. :) LaMenta3 06:34, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Hey, I noticed your contributions around recent changes, and wanted to ask: I need some help with a wiki, it's called the Gun Wiki, and it is a wiki all about firearms (and other stuff related to them...) and it needs to be more active, so, would you mind coming over there and helping out if you know about firearms? Sorry to sound kind of pathetic, but I've been looking for more contributers. By the way, my name's Brain40, and is there a WikiProject for the Confederate States of America? Hello, I have moved your user template from the category for Wikipedians from Georgia, the country in Eastern Europe, to the category for Wikipedians from Georgia, the US state. Hope you don’t mind. --Philip Stevens 15:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Scvlogo.gif

Hello JohnnyReb1977, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Scvlogo.gif) was found at the following location: User:JohnnyReb1977. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not readd the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 08:41, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Looks good so far! Made a couple of quick changes. I've been somewhat inactive as of late; when I get on an editing spurt, I'll try to add some to it.--HowardSF-U-T-C- 14:25, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:KaztheMinotaur.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:KaztheMinotaur.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 19:39, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimania Atlanta

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 07:18, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] For future reference

If you remove a large section of text from an article - even if it's not really very good text - it's very important to use an edit summary explaining what you did and why. I saw you remove a huge load of text from the History of Georgia article, and I reverted that... then I was going to warn you against vandalism, and I saw that you'd done a lot of good work... so I looked more closely at what exactly you had removed from the article, and I saw why.

(I've restored your removal.)

No harm done; this is just so you know for next time. DS 02:22, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Georgia (U.S. state)

Hey Johnny,

That was great work you did on Portal:Georgia (U.S. state). That was exactly what I was talking about. I'll try and add some more articles to the list. Then I want to do the same thing with the South Carolina Portal.

I just looked at your main userpage. You're from Claxton and a graduate of GSU? Cool. My mom lives a few blocks from GSU and teaches there. She also has a good friend who lives in Claxton. I can't think of her friend's name, but I have heard my mom talk about going to Claxton often. Rocketmaniac (talk) 02:55, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

More great work on the bio section. I'm going to remove the little box near the top that says "The current selected article and biography are placeholders until the articles can be decided on formally". Your work has clearly made those sections not placeholders anymore. I've also added this portal to the portal directory. Portal:Contents/Portals and Wikipedia:Portal/Directory I listed the creator, but did not list the person that maintains it. Do you want that honor? Rocketmaniac (talk) 18:42, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Done, both names have been added. Rocketmaniac (talk) 19:49, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Another question, should we (or can we) do the same thing with the Featured Picture section as you have done with the Selected article and Selected biography? I've found another picture I think will be good. The "code" is here User:Rocketmaniac/Sandbox3. Rocketmaniac (talk) 03:24, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to work on the selected articles section. I just noticed that there are no links from the portal to the each actual whole article. A reader should be ablle to easily go find more info on each of our selected articles. I'm going to also try and find a few more articles to add.

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 21 December 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Climate of Georgia (U.S. state), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] Georgia county navigation boxs

Hey Johnny, I've just looked at the Nav boxes that appear in the Georgia county articles. They use the "US county navigation box". To me it looks like that aren't really doing much for the articles. They don't have much info in them. Look at the Bulloch County nav box.

1 city (that appears in two places) and 3 towns. And I wonder if we can add enough info to make it worth the space it uses? What is your opinion? Rocketmaniac (talk) 02:51, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

South Carolina county articles don't use these nav boxes as of now, so I'm not really used to them. But, things that we could add might be schools, at all levels, state parks & forests, bodies of water (rivers & lakes), and ????. I've worked a good bit to expand the state of South Carolina nav box, and would like to do the same for Georgia.
So, about cities and towns in Georgia, do we just list/display all communities as cities? In the SC nav box there are subdivisions for large cities, small cities, towns, CDPs (Census-designated places) and Unincorporated areas. Are there CDPs and Unincorporated areas in Georgia? Oh BTW, did you see my other question about the Georgia portal? (not to bug you, but see the portal section above this section) I'm going to try and work on the portal a little today. Rocketmaniac (talk) 14:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Since Georgia has a ton of counties, (2nd only to Texas) any modifications to the individual county articles will need to be tracked. (So we can easily see which counties have been modified and which have not). To help with this tracking, I've created a list of the counties and we can use it to track any modifications we do. User:Rocketmaniac/Sandbox7 is the list. The first county has an example of how we can mark a certain as "done" for a certain modification. What you think? Usefull? Rocketmaniac (talk) 22:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
We just need to decide what items we want to add to the county nav boxes first? I'll work on adding rivers. And far as being gone for a few days, man it's the holidays. You got to spend as much time with your family as you can. Wikipedia will still be here next week. If I don't get a chance to talk (write) to you before christmas, you have a Merry Christmas!. Rocketmaniac (talk) 03:02, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cities, Towns, CDPs, Metropolitan & Micropolitan areas and Unincorporated communities

Hey Johnny, The state of Georgia might turn out to be a bag of worms. list all of these different type of communities. If we are really going to make all towns into "cities", we only have 145 articles to fix. LOL, what should we do, cry? Rocketmaniac (talk) 23:28, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, before we go and start making Major changes to a ton of articles, we should get some more editors in on the discussion. 4 categorys would be fine with me. Rocketmaniac (talk) 03:05, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Just wanted to let you know that VerruckteDan asked me to offer an opinion on this question, so I've given one on his talk page. Nyttend (talk) 23:43, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

By the way, you ask how to "fill out" the county templates: go to unincorporated communities in Evans and other counties near you, find places, take pictures, research in local histories, write articles, and add them to the templates. I'm sure that there are several notable communities in Evans County alone that don't have articles but have stories that could easily be told in a fine format. Remember, Wikipedia isn't paper :-) Nyttend (talk) 05:13, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

I should say: I'm sorry if I came across as angry last night. I wasn't meaning to imply that I was. Nyttend (talk) 15:34, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Georgia county progress

Hey Johnny, how was your christmas? (I've still recovering for eating too much) I did quite a bitg of work on the Georgia Counties templates the other day, but it was ALL reverted. The reasoning is that "bodies of water are outside the scope of municipalities and communities". To see the discussion about this see this guys Talk page User talk:VerruckteDan. I still don't agree but there's nothing I can do. He'll just revert anything I to these templates. Later Rocketmaniac (talk) 15:16, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal: South Carolina help

Hey bubby old pal, can you help me out. Will you do your magic with the multiple "selected articles" thing with the South Carolina Portal? The difference is that with the SC portal is actually called "Featured". Here's the link to the 2nd article. Portal:South Carolina/Featured/2 If you can get the "multiple" thingy working I can add additional articles by myself. (I might need you to do this again with the "selected bios") Many Thanks, Rocketmaniac (talk) 04:34, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article assistance

I'll take a look soon. My mom just arrived and I need to spend a little time with her. After that, I'll work on your article. BTW, thanks for doing the multiple article thingy on the SC Portal. Rocketmaniac (talk) 22:55, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Johnny, I did a first quick read of the article. Nice work. I made one minor edit for you. As far a detailed reply/opinion I'm going to have to wait until Saturday, as I'm quite tired. In a nutshell, I think the paragraphs about the "National Parks" and "Wildlife Refuges" need to sound more like a paragraph and less like a list. Sorry I can't kind a detailed response tonight. Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:15, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Morning. Like I said above, those two section read like list, not a paragraph. Solutions to this might include, 1) just rewriting it to make it more like a normal paragraph or 2) add a these parks and refuges to a real list like this;
One thing I didn't totally understand was about which agency controlled with areas. In the Intro it said that "Georgia is home to 63 parks, 48 of which are state parks and 15 that are historic sites, and many state wildlife preserves, under the supervision of the Georgia Department of Parks and Recreation, a division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources" but then in the next paragraph it said that "Georgia's federally protected areas are managed by agencies within the United States Department of the Interior". Is this the difference between state and federal protected areas? And my last comment is about the first sentence in the Flora and fauna section; "The State of Georgia has approximately 250 tree species and 58 protected plants". I know what you mean, but someone else might now. The actual sentence tells me that Georgia has 250 kinds of trees AND 58 plants that are protected. You mean that 250 trees and 58 plants are protected right? Minor wording I know but it might really confuse another reader. I've also added links to Flora and fauna so that someone who is interested can easily read about this.
Now, I hope I've not stepped on you toes in my review. It is a good article and I can see you've spent some time on it. My comments are just about my reaction to reading the article. No mean intent at all. Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 12:58, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox help

I'm sorry to say that I don't think I can help you. Despite my many template edits, I really don't know about template syntax: I've discovered by trial and error how to make the US county infobox work, but I really don't know how to make new templates. Or are you asking for help in some other way? If you want help in some other way, I'll do my best to be of aid. Nyttend (talk) 22:36, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Be bold and create it :-) No need to ask permission for it. Nyttend (talk) 00:55, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge

Hey Johnny, Happy New Year!!! Hey my wife got us (our whole family) tickets for a 4 day/night cruise leaving out of Jacksonville. We actually leave on Thursday, but we are going to spend Wednesday traveling slowly down to Jacksonville. I just looked at the Atlas and think I'd like to stop and check out Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge. Plus, it is one of the refuges that we don't have an article for yet. I'll try and take some good pictures and I'll write the article when I get home. (internet on the ship costs too much to anymore than just check email). Another choice might be the Wolf Island National Wildlife Refuge. Another refuge that needs something written about it. I'll talk to you when I return on Monday. Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Johnny, change of plans. We won't be stopping at either refuge. It's just too darn cold to really enjoy walking around outside. Maybe next trip. But, I will still try and write something when I get home. (I'm almost to FL right now, using my wife's "Air" Card to serf the internet) Rocketmaniac (talk) 22:05, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
LOL, what I've done so far is just copy the "code" from another refuge article and then start changing the data to be about Blackbeard refuge. It's got a ton more work to go. Rocketmaniac (talk) 23:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh yea, speaking of the refuge articles, did you see what I've done to several of the articles involving the map? See this example Fort Frederica National Monument I changed the map on the right from the a US map to a Georgia map. It gives the reading a better idea exactly where the place actually is. I'll continue editing the others soon. Rocketmaniac (talk) 12:01, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I just finished (and moved) the Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge article. 1 down and a ton to go. Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:29, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I've started working on the article for Wolf Island National Wildlife Refuge. The basic shell (copied from Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge) is here User:Rocketmaniac/Sandbox8. Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 03:51, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I just saw your edit to the Wolf Island article. Nice editing job. LOL, I had mispelled that word Category so it would not show up on that Category page until I was totally finished with the article, but not big deal. Thanks for backing me up. Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:14, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Like I said, no big deal. I was trying to be slick and not have it show up, but have it basically ready for the final edit. But knowing how my memory is, I would have forgotten to correct the spelling and then wondered why it wasn't showing up on the Category page. Rocketmaniac (talk) 02:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images in your sandbox

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that the hockey logos from your sandbox should be removed. According to our image policies, you cannot have any Non-Free media on any pages except those in the article namespace. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on my talk page. Thanks, Rjd0060 (talk) 16:14, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. - Rjd0060 (talk) 17:06, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I know it can make things difficult, as you are using the images inplace of where they would go when the article is complete. To remedy this, you can insert (and resize accordingly) in place of the other images. - Rjd0060 (talk) 17:09, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I think it looks really good! Readable, nice layout and the format allows for easy navigating. Great work. - Rjd0060 (talk) 17:28, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Protected areas, parks, forests and other areas

Hey Johnny,

I was looking at your Protected areas of Georgia (and the template)

and had a question. Which wikiproject or portal deals with Protected areas, parks, forests (both state and federal) and other areas? The reason I ask is there seems to be no standard format for maps in these articles. Articles on IUCN Category V areas seem to use the kind of map like the one I changed on the Blackbeard refuge. And just about all of them (except the ones I changed) use the US map instead of the individual state maps. Many state parks use maps like the kind in this article Amicalola Falls State Park. I personally like this kind , but I don't want to do too much editing without other editors opinion. Rocketmaniac (talk) 14:41, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I've posted this question on the wikiproject discussion page, and yes, I'd like your opinion on the subject also. Rocketmaniac (talk) 00:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More questions

Mr Johnny, I've a few more questions for you. 1) Are all rivers and lakes considered "protected areas"? This morning I created a protected template for SC and now I want to start adding more stuff to it. Here it is if you want to take a look at it.

2) In the template in above section, where would Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge go? In the Protected Areas of Florida there is a section called Preserves and reserves. Here's the template. Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:48, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Infobox Protected areas of Georgia (U.S. state)

Hey Johnny, I got your template working with the 2 maps in 1 deal. And I added Latitude and Longitude for the center of Georgia. If this is not correct, tell me where exactly you want it for. But ..... I'm still working on the red dot in the map thingy. I'll come back to it as soon as I figure it out (or find someone who knows how to do it). Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] What's going on?

Hey Johnny, I just wanted to drop you a note and see how you're doing? I'm been kind of busy with other things and haven't done much editing lately, (The spring semester has started and I'm having to drive to Sumter 4 days a week, even though I'm only taking 2 classes). I may be making a trip to see my mom one of the upcoming weekends. If you're not totally busy and we can meet up, I'll buy you lunch. Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 16:01, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Johnny, my daughter and I are going to Statesboro this coming Friday (Feb 1st) afternoon. We will stay until around noon on Sunday, give me time to get ready for our annual Superbowl party. How would lunch on Saturday sound? Next question, which is better Statesboro or Claxton? Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 15:57, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Awesome. email me at rockets@rocketmaniac.com, then I'll email you back with my main email address and cell number. Rocketmaniac (talk) 19:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:44, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:5thcavflg2.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:5thcavflg2.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

Hello Johnny, Just a quick note to see what going on in your part of the world? My family and I went to Helen, GA this last weekend to see some relatives. It was a real nice place. We might move there after my wife finishes her PhD in nursing so she can start her own medical clinic. (since there is no hospital or medical clinic in all of White County) I might be going back to Statesboro next week. (maybe around the 28th) I'll let you know at time gets closer. Later, Rocketmaniac RT 04:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey just checking in. I notice that you've not been editing much lately. Nothing is wrong in Claxton is it? I've gotten heavily involved in editing a lot of college football articles lately. I know I need to do some more work on the State Portals I've created. There just doesn't seem to be enough time in a day to get everything done. LOL, I need about another 4-5 hours each day. Anyway, talk to you later. Rocketmaniac RT 01:37, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Need Some Unbiased Assitance

Hi Reb. I've been involved in Wiki and the Georgia Project a bit more from the aviation side. And I'm guessing that is not an area of your expertise, but that in itself might be a real plus. There has been an ongoing discussion in a template page for airports for some time. Several of us want to change it, but other editors who seem to believe that their opinions carry more weight refuse to talk issues - they simply try to squelch the discussion. All I want is to apply an unbiased, objective set of standards to use in deciding which sites are included in the template. Pro or con, I'm good with your opinion either way, but it would be very helpful if you would consider taking a look and voicing your opinion.

The "old" editors trying to crush the discussion reason that affliations and affinities for suggested new sites by relatively new editors preclude their consideration for inclusion. But Wiki guidelines state that people affiliated with sites suggest their sites by discussing them in the talk page. Nowhere is there any implication that a suggested site should be vetoed without an examination of its value and merits. A simple set of objective standards for inclusion would solve this problem, but the "old" editors don't want anything to happen that might change the current status of the template. Thanks much. Gladtohelp, What template are you referring to? Thanks, Rocketmaniac RT 01:19, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your interest Rocket Man. Here's the talk page. It is quite verbose, so you might start at the bottom. You'll get the gist of what's going on pretty easily. By the way, I see we share an affintiy for manned spaceflight. Do you ever hang out at www.collectspace.com?
Here's that talk page.

Hey, Gladtohelp. I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner. I will try to take a look at the discussion today, but I can't make any promises. It's been a very busy few days here in real life. Reb (talk) 12:49, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I understand. Thanks for looking even if you don't have time to digest it or comment. Gladtohelp (talk) 14:13, 29 February 2008 (UTC)gladtohelp

Gladtohelp, after spending about 5 minutes reading that page I got a headache. Everything goes round and round there. Yes, I see a huge conflict there. I'd suggest find an admin person and ask them to join in the conversation. Someone who actually has more "weight". Good luck with it. Rocketmaniac RT 15:31, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for looking Rocket. Yeah, round and round for sure. We did get Alexf (administrator) to look and he agreed that we should be able to discuss and reach a solution. Otherwise, he just turned it back over to use. Doesn't matter how long we discuss it, DualFreq and TouchdownTurnaround ignore the arguments and give it a knee-jerk veto without any other involvement in the discussions. Not what Alexf suggested at all. Sheesh! Gladtohelp (talk) 15:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)gladtohelp
