[edit] License tagging for Image:Altona, Victoria main street.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Altona, Victoria main street.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:05, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

This image has been added to Altona Gate Shopping Centre. I do not think it is anywhere near that Shopping Centre in Altona North, but is the main street in Altona. Am I right? --Bduke 00:39, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:MelbLGA-Brimbank.gif

Hi, hope you don't mind but I added this one today based on your Wyndham one. If you wish to upload a cleaner one over the top, feel free :) They're really good (and very useful on the LGA pages!) Orderinchaos78 13:07, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

No worries. As for the distance, I took it to mean shortest road distance (or in the case of islands, shortest travelled distance) - the as-the-crow-flies distance doesn't really mean much from a visitor/encyclopaedic point of view (esp given that most of the original geography stuff on Wiki was designed by road geeks :D) Orderinchaos78 14:09, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Melbourne meetup in planning

Hello, you've indicated that you're interested in future Meetups in Melbourne on this list, so I'm giving you this message to remind you that Melbounre meetup number four is currently in planning. If you haven't already, please go to Wikipedia:Meetup/Melbourne to suggest possible dates, times and locations. Thanks --Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 03:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Melbourne meetup

Greetings, person who is listed as being interested in future meetups in Melbourne. The fourth meetup will be held on 18 December, at Lower House in Fed Square (in the Alfred Deaking building, Flinders Street end near the Atrium: map), starting from 7pm. We don't currently have a separate location for discussion beforehand, but there'll be plenty of time to talk wiki over dinner. --bainer (talk) 15:04, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Map Congrats & Request

Hi JohnnoShadbolt - I just wanted to congratulate you on your Metro Light Rail map. It's excellent. I was wondering if you would consider doing a map for Sydney's rail system. We had this one, which was good, but some users didn't like it and kept deleting it, surprisingly in favour of this one, which really doesn't look great on the article. I'd prefer a map that has all the stations on it, even if it is shrunk down - that's the whole point of thumnails anyway. It should also be reasonably geographically accurate (ie. not a generic map like the CityRail map shows). I have no idea how you could get that, but a street directory might help... I don't know. Could you see whether you would be able to do that? I would really appreciate it - your maps are good and it would be good to see one on our CityRail article. Thanks. JRG 09:26, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment! - I'd be more than willing to make a map of Sydney's railways. Similar to this one of Melbourne? Cheers --JohnnoShadbolt 10:03, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes - that would be great. JRG 23:15, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

How's the map going? JRG 07:29, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

It appears that User:144.136.49.5 is up a little past his bedtime, making vandal edits. I've never had to report someone for vandalism before, but I know that they need a number of warnings. Have you done this before? I am unsure how to proceed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arcayne (talkcontribs) 09:56, 18 February 2007 (UTC).

The excellent Metlink trains map you made needs an update for the recent removal of Zone 3. Thanks. Pimlottc 04:18, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Further updates to Melbourne Train Map

Firstly, congratulations on the map. It's fantastic. How did you create it? A minor thing - "Heidelberg" station on the Hurstbridge line is spelt incorrectly. Next time you update the map, can you fix this up please? (the i/e are round the wrong way). Cheers Natronomonas 04:00, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fifth Melbourne meetup

The fifth meetup of Melbourne Wikipedians is being planned as a breakfast meeting in the city with Jimbo Wales (at a venue to be arranged) on Friday, 27 April 2007.

Jimbo has proposed breakfast as the one real window of opportunity during his tightly scheduled stay in Melbourne. Tbe precise time has to be sorted out with Jimbo, but the arrangements for the equivalent Adelaide meetup a few days before may give a good idea.

Feel free to edit the relevant page in any way that might be helpful. I feel like a bit of an interloper, not having attended previous meetups. If there's anything you can do to help, I'll be grateful. Please think about whether you'll be able to make it, assuming the arrangements are similar to those Adelaide is adopting (i.e. a block of time with people being fairly free to arrive when it suits them). Some indication on the page of your possible participation would be really helpful. Metamagician3000 06:28, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:BrimbankCityCouncilLogo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:BrimbankCityCouncilLogo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sydney Railways Map

I asked you several months ago how the Sydney train map was going and you did not reply. What progress has been made on your Sydney railways map? JRG 13:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks heaps - it looks great. JRG 12:43, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Melbourne rail map

The Melbourne rail map has the stations Anstey and Moreland in the wrong order. Anstey is the closer station to the city.

Electrified services to Craigieburn station have now begun. Roxburgh Park station should be added to your map. Thanks. --ozzmosis 08:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Great map. Love that it is roughly to scale but otherwise similar to the offical Melbourne train network maps. I just have a couple of suggestions. You have labeled one of the City Loop stations Central. The correct name is Melbourne Central. Also you have shown the Mornington Tourist Railway but not Puffing Billy. That would make a great addition. Danielklein (talk) 04:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Altona Gate Shopping Centre (logo).gif

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Altona Gate Shopping Centre (logo).gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:37, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. [edit] Working on maps

Hi - great Sydney rail map. I've made a few maps [1] [2] [3], but they look less accurate than yours (especially on the coast and shore lines) ... that said I do rather modestly think they're pretty. If you're working in Illustrator, perhaps we could collaborate in future? TransitPolice 09:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Derivatives of Image:Melbourne railways map.gif

I'm been working on a new infobox for the Melbourne railways lines (example: City Loop, Melbourne)

Is it possible for you to either produce separate versions of your map with all lines bar one 'greyed out' and the line in focus being in colour; or for you pass along the original vector files for me to do it? Also, the addition of the closed Rosstown, Inner and Outer Circle, and Kew lines would be useful as well, at least in a separate version. I'll pass some rough sketches along if you need them. Wongm 06:50, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I too would like access to the original vector files for your Melbourne railway lines map. Is that possible? In fact, is there any reason why you can't upload an SVG file to Wikipedia/the Commons? (WP automatically converts it to a raster image for viewing.) —Felix the Cassowary 07:34, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:HobsonsBayLogo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:HobsonsBayLogo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:07, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
