- Prof. Ahmad al-Tal, apparently a former dean at Zarqa Private University in Jordan, quotes Israeli journalist Amnon Kapeliouk of Le Monde Diplomatique as asserting that the International Committee of the Red Cross ultimately counted 2,750 victims, and that the actual figure may have been 3,000 to 3,500.[2]
The massacre provoked outrage around the world. On December 16, 1982 the United Nations General Assembly condemned the massacre and declared it to be an act of genocide. [3]
