JOHN LISYANSKIY - City Council Candidate 47th Council District

John’s career in government and politics began in 1998 as a Legislative Assistant with the New York City Council under then Speaker Peter F. Vallone in 1998. When the new administration under Speaker Gifford Miller came into office in 2002, John was given an opportunity to remain in the Speaker's Office. John developed a strong and close relationship with Speaker Miller, who to this day remains one of his good friends and supporters.

During his four years working under Speaker Miller’s administration, John worked closely with many Council Members on various issues impacting the diverse communities of New York City. Speaker Christine C. Quinn, while still a Council Member, was always very cordial with John and they developed a good working relationship. Therefore, when Speaker Quinn came into office as Speaker in 2006, she asked John to remain in her administration and in the Speaker's Office. John is a graduate of Baruch College, School of Public Affairs and is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.

John feels truly honored, privileged and fortunate to have had this unique opportunity to work directly with the three Speakers of the New York City Council. John acquired in-depth knowledge about the governmental process and New York City politics directly from some of the most prominent people in the political sphere and feels that this unmatched experience is one of the prime reasons why he is the best possible candidate for the City Council.

John has an extensive institutional knowledge regarding the workings of the City Council. Such knowledge will prove invaluable when it comes time to make decisions on difficult issues, achieving real results for his constituents and pushing through vital legislation. Moreover, in the ten years John has spent working in the City Council, he has met and developed strong and lasting relationships with many business and community leaders, who are now some of his greatest supporters. These relationships will also assist John in keeping his finger on the pulse of his constituency and ensuring that he will always have an open ear to their concerns and needs.

John encompasses a wide range of support and, with the 2009 City Council elections slated to seat 36 new Council Members due to term limits, his experience will allow him the opportunity to seek a leadership post in the City Council and the chance to resolve the broad-range of issues vital to his supporters and constituents.

We want to thank you again for your ongoing support. John is in it to win it and, with your support, we are confident that we can take it all the way to City Hall.
