Stuff about me

[edit] John Garbutt
I'm twenty-two years old and I live in Hartlepool.
My personal knowledge extends to various areas of music, philosophy, and literature, as well as certain Eastern spiritual practices, specifically those of Buddhism and Taoism.
[edit] Education
Subjects in which I hold A-level qualifications include Religious Studies, English Language and English Literature. In addition to these, I also hold an AS-level in Classical Civilisation.
[edit] Musical abilities
From an early age until I left secondary school, I recieved professional tuition in both the violin and the viola. I can play both of these instruments to a grade 5 standard, and have performed with a number of different classical orchestras.
As a folkie, I have been a regular performer at several different folk clubs, where I usually sing and accompany myself on guitar.
I have taught myself to play a variety of other instruments. These include the mandolin, tin whistle, harmonica, tenor banjo and the spoons.
I regularly compose songs and musical pieces of my own.
[edit] Other interests
I was previously a member of the Bradford University Real Ale Society. This means that I often had the opportunity to visit different breweries and festivals. As a result I have developed a good knowledge of various ales from around the country.
My knowledge of Buddhism and Taoism stems from some personal attempts at incorporating these spiritual traditions into my daily life.
Although currently unemployed, I sometimes earn a little extra money by busking on the streets of Hartlepool.
[edit] Languages
Unfortunately, English is the only language in which I speak fluently. However, I do have a very basic grasp of German, as well as a fair vocabulary of musical terms in Italian.
