Talk:Johnny Come Lately

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It seems to me that this usage of the term "Johnny Come Lately" is a fairly minor one. To have the only discussion of this term limited to one very specific and very recent example seems a disservice. To my mind, the Wikipedia article on this term should comprise at least three distinct sections: general meaning of the term, origins/historical usage of the term, and contemporary usage of the term. The usage section might include several subsections, such as "Entertainment Media" and "Sport", and within the "Sport" section there could be a line on English Football that would link to the text of the current article.

Also, the new main article I am proposing should take the title "Johnny Come Lately"; the current page would be renamed "Johnny Come Lately (English Football)". On the main page, there should be that disclaimer at the top: "'Johnny Come Lately' redirects here; see the disambiguation page". On the disambiguation page could be listed both the new main article and the "English Football" version. Rnickel (talk) 19:27, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

In August 2007 Portsmouth F.C.'s home attendance against Bolton was only 17,108. The News speculated on the reasons behind this drop. Why when in the first two or three years[1] were attendances so good? And why, after their most successful premiership season ever and a positive summer build up, are a percentage of those people staying away[2]? One humorous acronym is that these people are RRPs: Regulars Recently Departed. Reasons given so far include

  • Average supporter being priced out of the game: Nigel Tressider, chairman of P.F.C Supporters' Club (Central)
  • Club's refusal to discount prices and attract the fans of tomorrow: Tressider(Ibid)
  • Tickets are not as accesible as they used to be: P.F.C season ticket holder, Jake Payne
  • Irregular kick-off times(Payne(ibid)[3]
  • Fans watching on T.V to save money:Former season ticket holder,Steve Burghard
