[edit] recent update
Someone added an update. I'd like to merge it into the main article, but I need a source. Can anyone help? Oddly enough, I can't find any information on his change of name either. At the time of this edit, a google search turns up 13 hits for Kristopher Kollyns and 1 single hit for Christopher Kollyns; it should be noted that one site out of each of those is Wikipedia itself and in the case of the former there are several mirrors.
Check the history for the added update - until it can be confirmed in some way, I'm removing it.Sethimothy 21:42, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- Odd. Googling on '+"john todd" +"christopher kollyns"' gave me three hits[1]. The third is this article, the second is an answers.com mirror, and the first is 'John Todd and the Illuminati', which leads to 'John Todd Now' containing an excerpt from an email: "Former Inmate Christopher Kollyns, SCDC# 145461, AKA John Wayne Todd, was serving a 30 year sentence for Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree... Dennis R. Patterson, Sr. Director, Division of Classification and Inmate Records South Carolina Dept. of Corrections."
- Aside from that one site, I can't find confirmation for the 'Christopher' or that particular spelling of the surname, but there's quite a bit for 'Collins'. 'John Todd and the Illuminati' (above) has Todd explaining that 'Collins' was an old family name (claims also reported in Cornerstone Magazine). Some sites e.g. [2] refer to him as 'John Todd Collins'.
- The evidence for 'Christopher' isn't clinching, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious reason why anybody would fabricate it, so I'm inclined to include that much. --Calair 02:11, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- That'll do perfectly. Thanks again. Sethimothy 04:03, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article name change?
The first definition of evangelist in the Random House Unabridged Dictionary is "a Protestant minister or layperson who serves as an itinerant or special preacher, esp. a revivalist." The article neither describes him as a preacher nor tells of him ever preaching, and he is certainly not a revivalist. Perhaps the article should be renamed.
The Random House Unabridged Dictionary defines occultism as "belief in the existence of secret, mysterious, or supernatural agencies." Occultist seems to be a title that fits Todd perfectly. Should we rename the article "John Todd (occultist)"? --SirEditALot 04:48, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- Works for me. I think he may have done some preaching, but he's best known as an 'occultist' anyway. --Calair 03:05, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's done. --SirEditALot 21:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
I know this is a bit 'after the fact', but I personally feel John_Todd_(nutjob) or John_Todd_(conspiracy_theorist) would be more appropriate (even though the prior is obviously not from a NPOV). Any way, notability on him as an 'occultist' is very, very low. While most christians label him as such (because labelling him a christian or evangelical is a stain on their reputation) he didn't gain any notoriety as a supposed 'occultist' until after the christian preachers, who previously used his avid opposition to 'pagans/witches' as an example, found out how screwed up he really was. I'm not suggesting relabelling him an evangelist, since that doesn't seem to fit either. Robrecht (talk) 16:39, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] BLP Issues
I added a BLP dispute tag. I came across this page on recent changes patrol, and it appears that essentially none of the information here has a reliable source. I'm particularly concerned because the page claims that the subject has been convicted on sexual offenses, (it even calls him the USC rapist!) with no sourcing whatsoever. Many of the links are broken, and I don't know that any of them qualify as reliable sources anyway. This information appears to be repeated widely on the internet, but again, no reliable sources. The only reason that I haven't all ready done a slash and burn stubification is that when I checked the South Carolina Sex Offender registry online [here] there is in fact a person with the subject's name. However, I have no proof that this is the same person as the subject. Without sourcing quickly I intend to delete the BLP material, which appears to be the great bulk of the article. I have deleted all unsourced statements as per WP:BLP. Editors that want to re-add the material in question, must provide verifiable sources. Continuing adding such material without sources, will result in the loss of editing privileges. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 17:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Info on Todd
I was one of the ones that added information on Todd. I contacted the South Carolina Dept of Corrections and inquired about John Todd AKA Khristopher Kollyns.
I received an e-mail back, which I do not have anymore, that stated that he was released from Prison and was in Rehab unit in South Carolina. He was convicted on several counts of Rape, and was dubbed the University of South Carolina Rapist. See here: Link
I believe his new name is spelled wrong.
I was also told by someone else, that they seriously doubted that Todd would ever leave the facility that he was at, as he was deemed a threat to society.
