[edit] First geologist in the Grand Canyon?

I'd like to add: In 1858, John Strong Newberry became probably the first geologist to visit the Grand Canyon. Discrepancy (talk) 18:50, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

The problem is the word "probably". Find a source that says he was the first; then you can add it with a citation to the source. —C.Fred (talk) 19:00, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, the following reference calls him the first "known" geologist in the Grand Canyon: Victor Polyak, Carol Hill, and Yemane Asmerom, Science, Vol 319, 7 March 2008, pages 1377-1380. So I guess we can use that phrase. Discrepancy (talk) 19:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
