[edit] Doubts

  • a) I doubt any CIA agent actually contacted anybody asking that this page be deleted
  • b) I doubt we should, even if it really did happen
  • c) There is no discussion on the discussion page, what are you talking about?
  • Sherurcij 07:25, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

Doubt as you may. you can see his personal web page at www.goodpaddle.com and note that I am the web master. You can see my personal page at www.davestockwell.com. you can reach me via email at dstockw@onebox.com. I can provide proof of the relationship AND can put you in direct contact with him, at his home, in Texas. i am simply attempting to follow the process for deletion and help my uncle with his request. David Stockwell, maple valley, WA

Well known once in a very small arena long time ago. Now he's just a retired computer support manager who wishes to paddle the rivers of Texas in peace. He'd have me remove all internet references to him if I could but you know my chances on that. I'd simply like to place the del tag in the article and let the Wikiadmins take a look at it. Unless you have another suggestion. I'm fairly new at this. Posting as a VFD. See also discussion with Sherurcij Stockwell 07:52, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Given that the article appears to be headed towards being kept, I'd suggest adding a bit to the end about how "he's just a retired computer support manager who wishes to paddle the rivers of Texas in peace". -- Cyrius| 19:01, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

any one know where i can find more of his speeches?

You could try Google, or another search engine, but beyond that, I'm afraid I'm not much help. Sherurcij 00:00, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I took the liberty of correcting the many errors in the article about my career--John Stockwell

I appreciate that, though I'm sure you can understand my natural suspicions whenever somebody claims to be someone "relatively famous" online. For instance, in your corrections you list five tours of duty, but in your 1977 Open Letter you said "having served seven full tours of duty", and I'm curious whether you are the highest-ranking CIA agent to leave, or why you changed that sentence to "one of the first professionals to leave the CIA" - could you cite somebody higher-ranked than yourself? Also, there are 450 references on Google for the quote It is the function of the CIA to keep the world unstable, to propagandize and teach the American people to hate, so we will let the Establishment spend any amount of money on arms. - is there a reason you removed it from the article? Again, the book Praetorian Guard said "military machine", not "Military/Industrial" machine as you have altered the quote now. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the tone of the article has changed, so I'd appreciate if you could clear this up for me. Sherurcij (talk) (Terrorist Wikiproject) 21:59, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Modification

I added the bit
The group began to fall apart as members presented different points of views, and the members began to distrust one another, wondering if there was a CIA spy amongst them.
but forgot to sign my name. it was in his book the praetorian guard (if I am not mistaken). Paskari 19:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Response

Sorry, I didn't mean to break rules. Am not familiar with Wikipedia.

What was up before about me was inaccurate. What is up now is accurate.

Am not sure of the context of your reference. I went through training, then served 3 tours in Africa (Cote D'Ivoire, Katanga, Burundi). Then a tour at Hqrs with some travel, working "against" the younger Gadafi. Then Vietnam, coming out with the fnal evacuation. Then back at Hqrs, with travel to Africa and Europe, managing the Angola War.

I was by no means "the highest ranking CIA case officer to go public." CIA director Admiral Turner has written books about CIA operations--I recommend them. He was a Rhodes Scholar and a leader of high principles. I was about the equivalent of a colonel when I quit. At the time I wrote In Search of Enemies, I may have been the highest ranking case officer to quit and write an expose, but this is much less important to me than what the book may have had to offer. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.112.128.155 (talk) 03:48, 2 February 2007 (UTC).

I don't see all these African countries listed in the article. This information should be added. Badagnani 23:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

Following the sentence about John Stockwell's 1980 prediction that the U.S. would "seek out new enemies" if the Soviet Union collapsed, there was a very poorly written sentence which I deleted, attempting to say (hard to tell because of how poorly written) that Gulf War II somehow fulfilled this prediction. I at first attempted to rewrite the sentence to make it (1) more readable and (2) about Gulf War I (since that is the only Iraq war with any temporal connection to the collapse of the Soviet Union). However, while rewriting I realized that even that claim -- that the first Gulf War was waged in order to support the M-I complex -- is controversial. Hence I ultimately just deleted the sentence. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.108.18.51 (talk) 21:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC).
