[edit] John Russel Dean (1896-????)
There seems to be a clash of names. The head of the United States Military Mission in Moscow during World War II was a John R. Dean. He attended several of the Moscow Conferences (Hanson W. Baldwin Review of The Strange Alliance. by John R. Deane, Society for Military History, Vol. 11, No. 2 (Summer, 1947), pp. 116-118 and (Appendix C: Principals at the international conferences January 1943—September 1944, U.S. Army Center of Military History) and he was present at the Potsdam Conference in 1945.(Truman library photographs)
After WWII he published a book
- John Russel Deane The Strange Alliance: The Story of Our Efforts at Wartime Cooperation with Russia, New York, Viking Press, 1947
It is possible that he is the father (Sr.) of the man on this page "John R. Deane, Jr." in which case we need this page to become a disambiguation page

- I think they are related, but I couldn't find one reference that gave Junior's middle name, nor one that said explicitly that they were related. There is a "III" who is a lawyer,[1] and I found a reference to "John Russell Deane Sr."[2] So I would say it's highly probable they are related, but I've yet to find something that explicitly states that. Given that the only thing that links to the "John R. Deane" redirect is something about "Sr.," it should probably be made into a disambiguatin page instead of redirecting here. BTW, it's (1896-1982) :) --Nobunaga24 23:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Found a reference to "John Russell Deane" of West Point class of 1942 here [3]--Nobunaga24 07:15, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
John Russell Deane, the author of The Strange Alliance: The Story of Our Efforts at Wartime Cooperation with Russia, is indeed the father of John Russell Deane, Jr. My father is the lawyer referenced above as John Russell Deane III and I am last in line as John Russell Deane IV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.183.29.164 (talk) 21:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
