People who do not have access to Factiva search or who do not want to go down to the Central Library at Victoria Street to read old copies of The Straits Times can see a summary of the case here. I have removed this and other prurient details from the article. They are totally uneccesary, add nothing to the detail. So we know he was cut up: we don't have to see it. Salacious and non-encyclopedic. 86.133.247.13 08:42, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FA!

Congratulations! This is now the second Singapore-related featured article on Wikipedia. Great work! - SpLoT // 06:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Well done! P.S. This is actually our third if you have counted the now de-featured British East India Company. Still, this is the second Singapore-related featured article written by our very own SGpedians'. Cheers. Terence 08:22, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Family

In the article, it mentioned that John Martin Scripps had a daughter named Lara. This is not true and has been removed from the article. It is not right to publicly post statements connecting somebody(even though surnames where omitted) to a serial murderer. There is also documentation to prove otherwise, so please refrain from posting this kind of information or inferring a connection may exist. Conjecture and supposition have no place in a factual wikipedia article. Thanks 217.41.6.133 19:41, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

How do you know that he never had a daughter named Lara? Your alteration of the cited material I wrote, without giving citations of your own, is not good practice. I do not have my main source with me now but a quick Factiva search for <John Martin AND Lara> did turn up one relevant result - an article in UK paper The Guardian, which is also the source I cited in the article for this claim. The last three paragraphs say (and I quote verbatim):

Scripps was still in love with his former wife Maria, a Mexican woman he met some years ago on a trip to Montreal. He had lost her to a British police officer while he was in prison, but not before she became pregnant with a child she told him was his.

Scripps went to Mexico hoping to win her and the daughter Lara back. He rented a flat in Mexico City and persuaded Maria to move in with him. His diary was peppered with references to Lara and what they did together. But things did not go well between him and Maria.

This seems to have been about the time the killing started.

-"QUIET MAN WHO WENT FROM DRUG SMUGGLING TO SERIAL MURDER", By Nick Cumming-Bruce, 953 words, 11 November 1995, The Guardian, p.4
Whatever the above paragraph means, I sincerely do not think it can be taken to mean that Scripps had no daughter named Lara. Resurgent insurgent 12:40, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] familly error continued

In response to Resurgent insurgent's comment on september 5th "How do you know that he never had a daughter named Lara?", I am obviously in a position to know. I find it quite interesting that somebody as well read as you obviously are, would use a newspaper article from the british tabloid press to insinuate a fact. I understand how you are striving to create a stong factually relevnt article, but you must understand that the press is not the most reliable source of information. I know that this information is incorrect, and this goes for other parts of the article too. However the only part I care about, is the statement that highlights Lara as Scripps's daughter. The only way I can prove this conclusively to you, is to A) present you with her birth certificate B)Leave you in a room with her real father ken C)let you speak to her mother. So which would you like me to do for you?

These are the facts as they stand, you can't prove Lara is related to Scripps, therefore remove it from the article. Secondly, any modifications made to your article were not done with malice, just done in a state of upset and fury at how an individual somewhere in the world, can connect a serial killer to somebody on the basis of the tabloid press. It wouldn't be the first time the newspapers have invented a story or modified it to sell more papers (one can look to pierce morgan for proof of that). If you are still not convinced leave me some way of contacting you, to discuss this away from public view. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.41.6.133 (talk) 21:51, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

So how do you like the info box, which now does not state "daughter - Lara"? Resurgent insurgent 06:44, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

That is all it needed, thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.253.175.11 (talk) 13:21, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
