Talk:John Lennon Songwriting Contest
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Realkyhick tagged this with "This article or section is written like an advertisement." How so? The article describes the songwriting contest, from NPOV, doesn't express any opinion on the contest, and doesn't encourage nor discourage entering the contest. (It certainly was not written by someone who has an opinion about the contest, but merely was written to fill a void; there are WP references to the contest and no article.) Realkyhick also didn't follow Wikipedia policy, "When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page." Gekritzl 00:28, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I wasn't in doubt, so that's why I did not discuss it on the talk page, therefore I did not violate Wikipedia policy. Now, on to the problems:
1) There are no sources other than the official web site. The only other reference is from the website of a person who has taught peoplw who went on to win the contest. 2) The author cites the need to fill a void on another Wikipedia article, namely Bonnie Hayes; that is the only link to the contest article, and that link was created by Gekritzl. In other words, this article appears to have been written as support for the other.
Now, having done a little fact checking for this article (which is usually the responsibility of the original author), I did find something that I believe makes this subject notable. The contest was previously co-sponsored by USA Weekend in 2004, and its judge, Usher, was featured on the front cover introducing the winner. [1]. Sure enough, just as I found this, someone else added this to the article (that was fast!). That should do the trick. Realkyhick 00:51, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
