I thought he was more commonly known as J of the L.???JHK

I don't know which name is more widely known; it probably depends on who you talk to or what you read. At the moment, I think John of the Ladder redirects to John Climacus. If you think it makes more sense to have it go the other way, feel free to change it, makes no difference to me. "Climacus" just means "of the ladder" more or less, based on what I've read recently. Using "John of the Ladder" might be more informative to English speakers. Any other opinions out there? If we change it, we should also revise the first sentence appropriately (just flip the two names), and also the relevant entry at List_of_saints. Wesley

This page and John Climax need to be merged, I think. BeavisSanchez

Whether John Climacus or John of the Ladder is more common or not, one thing's sure: John Climax is not common at all. Having it and John of the Ladder redirect here makes most sense, as even the highly anglocentric Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church knows him only as John Climacus. I have added some information from there to the article now and gotten an icon to illustrate. Geogre 03:43, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

A see a cross-pollination between this article and J C article at OrthodoxWiki. Since OW operates under a kind of "noncommercial use-only" license, I would kindly ask the authors to make sure that our article does not have copyvio. mikka (t) 20:27, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
