The Chieftainship of Clan Campbell of Craignish is currently vacant, though there is evidence that it was held by an Argyllshire family up to the 1960s, after which an heir has not been found. There is very little evidence to suggest the Falkirk Campbells of Craignish are the heirs. Neither John nor his son were Clan Chieftains, since this was held by another family at this time.
