John Alen II (born end 15th century - +1561), alias Jan Alen, alias Joannes Alenus,= the man to whom I owe my name, was born in London between 1492 and 1500). He moved to the Continent and on 20 December 1520 he registered as a student at the Catholic University of Leuven, then in the duchy of Brabant, today in Flanders, Belgium. In or about 1520, he eventually married Cathryn of Doornick in Herk- de- Stad, then in the county of lLoon, today in Flanders, Belgium, where he died in 1561. He is inter alia the name giving ancestor of the undersigned and of about another one hundred name- bearing Alen(us). Assistance is hereby requested from English and Irish researchers to establish the genealogical link between John Alen(us) I, the Cardinal and John Alen(us) II the scholar.
