Johnston and Murphy is an upscale American Men's shoe brand founded in 1850 by William J. Dudley, an English immigrant. Known for their traditionally styled men's dress shoes and loafers, in the 1990s they diversified into menswear, mainly tops and accessories, as well as small leather goods[1]. Its target market is "professional, affluent men".[2] It became under ownership by Nashville-based Genesco Inc. in 1951.
Johnston & Murphy has provided shoes to every US President since 1850. The male cast members of the TV Series The West Wing wear Johnston & Murphy shoes.
