Johnson Musical Instruments is a musical instrument manufacturer founded in 1993. They manufacture stringed instruments and accessories, with their primary specialization being acoustic guitars. Although this relatively new company has remained primarily in the shadows since its debut in 1993, artists such as Richie Owens and Ralph Carney have endorsed Johnson products. Even still, Johnson still remains as one of the unknowns in the guitar world. Very few expert reviews can be found for Johnson instruments, although user reviews around the web generally agree that the guitars "sound good for the price". The premiere Johnson guitar to flagship the company was the JM-998 Style-O Metal Body Resonator.

The JD-27 is part of the Carolina Series of dreadnaught acoustic guitars, featuring a solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, butterbean tuners, extravagant mother-of-pearl inlay on the headstock, and mother-of-peal fret markers. The JD-26 is similar except the back and sides are solid mahogany. The JD-26 was reviewed in the May 2006 issue of Acoustic Guitar.
