Johnson County Community College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johnson County Community College (often referred to as JCCC) is located in Overland Park, Kansas. In 1963, Johnson County Commissioners recognized the great demand in the area for a community college, and to accommodate the rapidy growing population of Johnson County, Kansas. In 1969, the community finally realized the goal and opened its doors to students. Since that time the college has grown tremendously, both in area and population. It is the largest community college in the state of Kansas, one of the largest in the midwest, and ranks among the top community colleges in the nation. Many students that attend JCCC later transfer to the University of Kansas or Kansas State University after receiving credit for general education classes or from one of the many highly competitive specific programs available. It houses a suburban campus and provides excellent facilities for its students. JCCC's current building projects include the Regnier Center for Technology and Business, and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. The Regnier Center opened in August 2007 and the Nerman is due to open in October 2007. JCCC is home to over 30,000 credit & non-credit students offering a wide variety of classes to international students as well as local.
