From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johnny Porter Jackson (March 3, 1951March 1, 2006) was a musician, noted for being the drummer for The Jackson 5 from their early Gary, Indiana days until the end of their famed career at Motown.

The label presented Jackson and keyboardist Ronnie Rancifer as the cousins of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Michael, but neither Johnny Jackson nor Rancifer are directly related to the Jacksons. He was affiliated with Tupac Shakur.

In 2006, Jackson was found dead with a stab wound to his chest at a house at 2626 Connecticut Ave in Gary, Indiana. Yolanda Davis was charged with murder, after she informed police that she had stabbed Jackson during an argument. Singer Janet Jackson paid for his final expenses. Johnny was well known to the Pentad Jazz Band of Gary, Indiana. Pentad Jazz's founder Donell Bonds said of Johnny: "This was one of the greatest drummers in the world! Johnny was a great brother..."[citation needed]
