Johnny Dingle (born November 9, 1986 in Miami, Florida) is an American football defensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League. He played collegiately for the West Virginia Mountaineers before being undrafted in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Dingle was a four-year starter at defensive end at Booker T. Washington High School, where he made 89 tackles and 22 sacks as a senior. He also had a blocked punt and a game-saving field goal block his senior year. He was all-state, named Dade County player of the year, and was the team captain of the basketball team.

Dingle originally signed with Florida, but then changed his decision to West Virginia.

[edit] Freshman season

Johnny Dingle enrolled at West Virginia University in 2004, but sat out the season due to grades.

[edit] Sophomore season

In 2005 as a sophomore, he totaled 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the season. He had three tackles and a sack against East Carolina. He also had two tackles and a seven-yard sack against Rutgers.

As a junior in 2006, Dingle started early at defensive end. Against Mississippi State, Dingle had a two sacks for a total of 16 yards while he forced a fumble against Wofford. Dingle missed the Syracuse and Connecticut with an ankle injury, but bounced back with two tackles against Louisville.

In 2007, Dingle led the defensive line with Keilen Dykes. Against Marshall in the second game of the season, Dingle recorded six tackles and two sacks. In the third game of the season against Maryland, he had five tackles and a fumble recovery. Against Syracuse at the Carrier Dome, Dingle had two pass deflections along with two forced fumbles. For the homecoming win against Mississippi State], Dingle had one of the most impressive games on the season. He recorded 5 tackles and one sack, along with pressuring the quarterback all game long. In the victory against Rutgers, Dingle only recorded one tackle. Against Louisville, Dingle recorded three total tackles. He continued his streak of good games with 6 tackles and a sack against #22 Cincinnati the next week. In the 66-21 victory to clinch the Big East title over #20 Connecticut, Dingle had 5 tackles. Following the Pittsburgh loss to end the regular season, Dingle was named second-team All-Big East and earned the team's Gridiron Gladiator Award at the conclusion of the regular season. In Dingle's final collegiate game, the 48-28 victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, Dingle recorded two tackles and a sack, the sack coming on the Sooners' first drive of the game to force a punt. Dingle finished his senior season with 47 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

[edit] NFL Draft

On December 20th, 2007, Dingle announced his intentions to leave West Virginia University to enter the NFL Draft. Dingle still had a year of eligibility left, due to being a prop player.[1]

Scott Wright, owner of NFL Draft Countdown, projected Dingle as #29 in the defensive end class.[2] Dingle was also invited to the NFL Combine.[3] At the Combine, Dingle was reported to have met with the Atlanta Falcons, the Detroit Lions and the Denver Broncos[4]

In April, USA Today ranked Dingle as the #12 defensive end and as a 4th round selection in the Draft.[5]

Johnny Dingle was not selected in the NFL Draft and thus became an undrafted free agent at the draft's conclusion.

After going undrafted in the 2008 NFL Draft, Johnny Dingle was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dingle's favorite NFL player growing up was Lawrence Taylor, while the hardest he's ever been hit was from teammate Owen Schmitt.[6]
